We thought that the WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus' MediaTek MT 6589T would deliver a big bump in performance but we were disappointed. Sure the 1080p display looks crisp and beautiful and the benchmark performance has improved from the MT 6589 chipset but that's about it. Since more pixels are rendered on screen, we wish the phone had more RAM so that we'd enjoy a smoother interface. The overall performance of the WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus is good. The display and the design of the smartphone are its highlights with the performance coming in at second. The camera performance is also average. The only downside to the device is that there are times during heavy multitasking when it lags. If you have a budget of Rs. 15,000 and want a smartphone with a great display, you can consider this device along with the Lemon A4.

A full HD display and a whopping 2500mAh battery are the most attractive features of the smartphone. It supports a mere 4GB built-in storage but that can be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card.
Design
The first thing that you will notice about the WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus is that the device doesn’t look like a budget smartphone. It is really light, weighing a mere 150 grams and has a 5-inch full HD display which boasts of OGS (One Glass Solution). This helps to maintain the slim form factor of the device. Below the display you have the standard capacitive ‘menu’, ‘home’ and ‘back’ buttons.
The rear of the smartphone is white plastic and has the same feel and finish that we have seen on numerous other phones. The rear panel is easy to remove and you get access to the two SIM card slots and the MicroSD card slot. None of the slots are hot swappable.
The placement of buttons and ports on the Wammy Passion Z Plus is pretty standard- the bottom of the phone has the micro USB port, the left has the volume rocker, the right has the power button and the top has the headphones jack. The physical buttons are silver in colour on a white smartphone making them distinct. Their placement is convenient for single hand use.

The smartphone has a slim and elegant design, one of the better ones that we have seen on a budget smartphone. We have also seen some really well built smartphones such as the Lemon A4, but the WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus has the ability to hold its own in terms of design when compared to the competition.
UI and preloaded apps
The WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus runs on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. The smartphone also has the ability to update OTA (Over The Air), a feature we miss in most budget smartphones. The rest of the user interface is stock Android, one that we love. Navigating the device feels smooth but once you start multitasking you will see a noticible lag on the smartphone. The smartphone doesn’t come preloaded with any apps and that isn’t a bad thing as you have access to the Google Play store to populate the device with the apps you want to use.
Performance:

Getting the worst out of the way, the SmartBench Gaming score of the smartphone is the lowest when compared to the other devices. In the other benchmark scores, the WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus scored quite well, in some cases coming second after the Tegra 3 powered Xolo Play.
Moving on, the display of the WickedLeak smartphone is really good. The full HD display has wide viewing angles and the reproduction of colours is quite crisp. The whites on the display look white and that is a good thing as it proves that the display doesn’t have a tint. Reading text, watching movies, playing games or just navigating the device is fun since the display is gorgeous.
There is no lag while navigating the smartphone or using it for multitasking. The experience of interacting with the display feels really good. The keyboard is stock Android and is well laid out and the device is comfortable to type on.

The 5-inch display has a 1920×1080 pixel resolution giving it 440 ppi pixel density. The IPS panel has really good viewing angles and the text images; games all look crisp on the smartphone. The only smartphone that we have seen that has a more vibrant display at full brightness has to be the Lemon A4.
When it came to testing video files, we found that AVI and MP4 files ran smoothly on the WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus but in the case of MKV, the video played but the audio didn’t. Navigating the timeline of the videos, changing orientation, everything was smooth on the native player without any hiccups.
The camera on the WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus is good in well-lit conditions. The images are suited for use on social networking websites but not much else. But if you blow the images up to their full size, you will see some loss of detail. In low-lit environments, the quality of the camera isn’t great.

Gaming on the Wammy Passion Z Plus is plagued by the same problems that we saw on the other MediaTek MT6589 powered smartphones. We thought the situation would change on the MediaTek MT6589T chipset, but alas, Real Racing 3 still refused to run. However, games such as Angry Birds, Subway Surfer and even Dead Trigger ran well.
The calling capabilities of the smartphone is quite good. The earpiece performs well and the audio is clear. The loudspeaker is also really loud and that is a good thing.
In terms of its battery life, the WickedLeak Wammy Passion Z Plus is average. In our continuous video playback test, the device lasted for five hours. With average use you will be able to get through one day of use.
