Micromax Q75 (ezpad) – Snappy QWERTY smartphone Review
The Micromax Q75 ezpad is a snappy business smartphone that provides executive-class features at a very affordable price. The trackball, on-the-go Wi-Fi connectivity and lightweight yet efficient Opera Mini browser are its strong selling points. The QWERTY keypad and solid build quality add to the justification of a business smartphone. At a price point of Rs. 7,999, it makes a decent buy. However, if you are a cameraphone fanatic, you would be disappointed with the ordinary video camera.
Look and feel
The Micromax Q75 imitates the Blackberry Curve business phone design aesthetics, with a wide QWERTY keypad and 2.4-inch wide display. The glossy black finish on the front panel and the chocolate brown matte finish on the back-panel make a stark contrast against each other. At the same time, the chrome metallic brushed finish on the battery cover blends well with the chocolate brown coat on the back-panel.
Ergonomics and interface
[RELATED_ARTICLE]The battery compartment incorporates a latch mechanism, operated with the use of a switch located just above the battery cover on the back-panel. Removing the battery cover and the battery reveals two GSM-SIM slots and one microSD memory slot. There is a 3.2 Mega-pixel camera located just above the battery compartment latch switch and a speaker right next to the camera. The Q75 also includes a 3.5mm audio-jack and a power port at the bottom surface of the cellphone.
The wide and seamless keypad layout enables quick navigation through the menus, while it also supports fast typing. The trackball comes in handy while surfing the web-pages for scrolling and selecting the options. The shortcut menu and application buttons add to the ergonomics of the keypad.. Although, we felt that the keys were a bit hard on the fingers, much against its name “ezpad”. The lack of tactile feedback was very evident, as we had to press the keys quite hard to successfully register the input.
The home-screen includes a wide-array of widgets like: Facebook, YouTube, e-mail, Google and Wi-Fi. The trackball simplifies the navigation functionality by a big notch and makes surfing, downloading and online gaming a very enjoyable experience.

Performance
[RELATED_ARTICLE]The Micromax Q75 had a decent outing in the signal reception and voice clarity test, producing mixed results across various tests. The ordinary loudspeaker failed to impress by producing choppy vocals at volumes higher than 50%. Also, the handsfree output was quite feeble in noisy environmental conditions defeating the purpose of noise isolation. Although, the device ear piece produced consistent voice clarity across all the zones. The Q75 delivered a modest performance in the camera test, with the photo colour and crispness being average. The video capture test was less than satisfactory with blurred images and pixelated artefacts in every frame. The display test yielded satisfactory results with the sole exception of outdoor legibility (bright sunshine) being ordinary.
Conclusion
The Micromax Q75 ezpad is a snappy business smartphone that provides executive-class features at a very affordable price. The trackball, on-the-go Wi-Fi connectivity and lightweight yet efficient Opera Mini browser are its strong selling points. The QWERTY keypad and solid build quality add to the justification of a business smartphone. At a price point of Rs. 7,999, it makes a decent buy. Although, if you are a cameraphone fanatic, you would be disappointed with the ordinary video camera.
