VERDICT:

The Tecno Megabook T1 shapes up to be a good value laptop with its sleek design, robust build, and impressive portability. It excels in single-core performance thanks to its 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and has a high-quality display with strong colour accuracy. The SSD provides excellent read and write speeds, contributing to fast system responsiveness. However, its multi-core performance and GPU benchmarks are slightly below average, making it less ideal for intensive multi-threaded tasks or gaming. Overall, if its outdated Intel 11th Gen chip isn’t a deal breaker for you, the laptop as a package is good for users prioritising design, display quality, and everyday performance at a budget-friendly price.

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Laptop Back side

Alright, let’s talk about this new kid on the block – the Tecno Megabook T1. Now, I know what you’re thinking – another laptop in the sea of tech gadgets, right? But hold on, I have something more to talk about in this Tecno Megabook T1 review there’s something I have to talk about. The laptop has a sleek look, and allegedly packs a decent punch under the hood, all without burning a hole in your wallet. The model I reviewed has an Intel Core i7, it’s super light, and thin enough to really make you wonder – is this deal too good to be true? That’s exactly what this review is all about. In the next thousands or so words we’re going to see exactly what’s up with the Megabook T1. Is it the budget-thin and light laptops everyone was waiting for, or just another pretty face? Here’s the Tecno Megabook T1 review to answer the same question.

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Design, Build-quality, Keyboard And I/O Ports

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Backlid Design

At the heart of its design is the sleek aluminium frame, lending the laptop both durability and a premium feel. This choice of material not only contributes to its robustness but also gives it a modern and professional look, suitable for both business and casual environments. Moreover, the laptop is impressively slim, measuring around 14.8mm in thickness, which makes it one of the more slender laptops in its category. This thin profile does not compromise its strength and the laptop feels amazingly sturdy for a 15.6-inch unit.

In terms of design, the Tecno Megabook T1 adopts minimalism. It sports a clean and uncluttered look, with a colour scheme that is understated yet sophisticated. The laptop’s weight, at approximately 1.48kg, makes it excellently portable. For reference, most 15.6-inch laptops fall in the 1.6 to 1.76 kg range. Adding to its appeal is the thoughtful inclusion of a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, blending security with convenience seamlessly.

The Tecno Megabook T1 features a generously sized 14 x 8 cm trackpad, offering ample space for comfortable navigation and multi-finger gestures. I find the trackpad and keyboard quite impressive. The trackpad is large and perfectly centred, providing a spacious area for navigation and multi-touch gestures. Its sensitivity is just right, and the edges simulate physical mouse keys when pressed, which I find very convenient.

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Keyboard And Trackpad

The keyboard is another highlight for me. It has a full-size layout, complete with a numeric keypad, which is great for my work. The keys are of high quality with durable engraving, making them easy to read and use. The four-level backlighting is a boon, especially when I’m working in different lighting conditions. The buttons are large and well-spaced, offering a comfortable and accurate typing experience. The rigid base ensures there’s no flex when I’m typing, adding to the overall comfort. In summary, both the trackpad and keyboard enhanced my overall experience with the Tecno Megabook T1, making it a joy to use for both professional and personal tasks.

As for the I/O ports, I find the laptop’s I/O ports adequate for basic needs, but lacking in advanced connectivity options. It includes essential USB and HDMI ports, which are useful for everyday peripheral connections and external displays. However, the absence of more diverse ports like Thunderbolt or additional USB-C ports is a drawback.

This limitation hampers high-speed data transfer and the ability to connect multiple high-end devices, which is increasingly important in today’s tech landscape. While it meets basic requirements, the laptop’s port selection falls short for users needing advanced connectivity for professional tasks.

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Screen And Speakers

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Laptop Front Display

In this Tecno Megabook T1 review, I have to talk about its display. It offers a mix of features that generally indicate good quality. With a peak brightness of 301 cd/m², it sits at a moderate level, making it well-suited for indoor environments, though it may not perform as well in very bright or outdoor settings.

The display excels in colour reproduction, boasting a 99% coverage of the sRGB colour space, which is the standard for most internet and multimedia applications. This high coverage ensures that colours will be vibrant and true to life, ideal for tasks like graphic design and photo editing.

Furthermore, it offers an 83.3% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, a broader range used primarily in the film industry, enhancing the display’s suitability for video editing and movie watching. The average Delta E value of 3.2, while not in the realm of perfect colour accuracy, is still quite good.

It indicates that there may be some slight colour inaccuracies, but these would likely be imperceptible to most users. Overall, the Tecno Megabook T1’s display seems to strike a good balance between brightness and colour accuracy, making it a solid choice for a variety of uses.

The Tecno Megabook T1 features a self-developed Tecno VOC sound system, working with DTS sound and AI-powered technology to provide an immersive audio experience. While specific reviews focusing on the speaker’s sound quality are limited, the integration of DTS sound suggests a focus on enhancing the audio output, which is a positive aspect for a laptop in its category.

The Tecno Megabook T1’s speakers deliver a balanced audio experience, suitable for tasks like video conferencing and watching videos, but they may not stand out in terms of depth and richness, particularly in bass response and volume. Adequate for casual use, they provide clear audio for streaming and virtual meetings.

However, audiophiles or professionals might find them lacking in fidelity, especially in low-end frequencies. While they are competent for general use, for high-fidelity audio or immersive experiences, external speakers or headphones are recommended.

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Performance

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Laptop Side Profile

The Tecno Megabook T1, particularly its 2023 model, presents itself as a high-performance laptop with some impressive specifications. At its core, it boasts an 11th-generation Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor, which is a clear indicator of its capability to handle demanding tasks efficiently. Complementing this processing power is 16GB of LPDDR4 RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and responsive performance across a variety of applications.

In terms of CPU capabilities, in single-core performance, the Tecno Megabook T1 leads with a score of 1914, followed by the Acer Swift with 1702 and the Acer Aspire 5 with 1678. This suggests that the Tecno laptop has superior single-threaded performance.

However, in the multi-core test, the Tecno Megabook T1 scores 5674, which is lower than both Acer models. The Acer Swift has the highest multi-core score at 9243, followed by the Acer Aspire 5 with 8010. Multi-core scores are important for tasks that require multiple processing threads, such as video editing or running virtual machines.

Storage is also a strong suit, with a 1TB SSD providing ample space and fast data access speeds. The sequential read speed of 2399.16 MB/s and write speed of 2785.14 MB/s are exceptional, far surpassing traditional hard drives and standard SSDs. I notice this speed difference in everyday tasks: the laptop boots up quickly, applications load in a snap, and the system feels highly responsive.

The inclusion of Intel Iris Xᵉ Graphics suggests that the laptop can manage general graphics-related tasks and even some light gaming with ease. The 3DMark benchmark scores for the Intel Iris Xe GPU on the Tecno laptop are as follows: TimeSpy – 1373, Night Raid – 12473, FireStrike – 3764, Wild Life – 10765, and WildLife Extreme – 3094.

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: CPU Throttle Test

A typical 3DMark Time Spy Graphics Score for Intel Iris Xe is around 1515. This suggests that the Tecno laptop’s score of 1373 in TimeSpy is slightly below the average for this GPU. In another comparison, an Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 96EU scored 4172 in Fire Strike, indicating that the Tecno laptop’s score of 3764 is also somewhat lower than this benchmark.

The Tecno Megabook T1’s high single-core score is good for tasks that rely on single-threaded performance, like most gaming and everyday applications. But in this case, gaming isn’t a suitable option as the laptop lacks a discrete GPU. Moreover, its lower multi-core score might indicate less capability in handling multi-threaded applications like photo-video editing, rendering complex scenes etc.

Tecno Megabook T1 Review: Conclusion

This Tecno Megabook T1 review summarises the laptop as a compelling budget-friendly laptop, particularly attractive for its design and build quality. Wrapped in an aluminium chassis, it offers durability without compromising on aesthetics, boasting a slim 14.8mm profile that’s lighter than many in its class at 1.48kg.

With an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 chip at its heart, it handles single-core tasks with ease as indicated by its impressive Cinebench single-core scores. The display is a strong point, with excellent colour coverage, though brightness may be limiting for outdoor use. The machine’s SSD speeds are a highlight, providing swift data access that enhances the overall user experience.

Despite these perks, the Tecno Megabook T1 is not without its shortcomings. Multi-core performance doesn’t match up to its peers, suggesting potential limitations with multitasking or more demanding workflows. Additionally, the integrated Intel graphics, while adequate for everyday use and light multimedia tasks, fall short for gaming or intensive graphics work.

In summary, the Tecno Megabook T1 would have been a great choice for users who need a portable and stylish laptop for general productivity tasks, media consumption, and light creative work, but in 2023 the 11th-generation chip feels outdated.

If you can compromise on size then the 14-inch Infinix Inbook X3 Slim powered by Intel 12th Gen Core i5 CPU could be a good bet. On its own, the Tecnobook Megabook X1 is a great package but its CPU could defer some users. If you’re not one of those people, you can easily consider getting the Tecno Megabook T1 as an office or general-purpose device.
