If you are however looking to invest in a mouse to compliment your Windows 8 laptop, then you have a really good device on offer. It is compatible with Mac machines as well. The build is good, the performance is great and the only con is the placement of the Windows button and the fact that the top is a fingerprint magnet. If you are looking to invest in a utility mouse for long-term use you can consider this device but not for gaming, though.

The top has a glossy finish, which is a fingerprint and dust magnet. The scrolling wheel has a rubberized finish, which feels nice and sturdy. Above the scrolling wheel you have a dedicated “Windows” button which when used with Windows 8 takes you to the start screen. It may be a bit difficult to press this “Windows” button and it would have been more ergonomic if it were placed on the side (to access with your thumb), just as we have seen with so many other pointing devices.
The bottom of the Microsoft Sculpt Mobile mouse has a slot for the single AA battery, the on/off switch and a slot for the USB dongle.

Overall, the design of the Microsoft Sculpt Mobile mouse is good. It is compact and the housing slot for the USB dongles means that you won’t lose it.
Setup
Setting up the Microsoft Sculpt Mobile mouse is really simple, as easy as plug and play. The device is compatible with Windows 8, Windows RT and Mac OSX 10.4 and higher. Windows users merely need to plug the dongle into the PC, wait for the relevant drivers to download and voila! You are ready to use it. On Mac, you can download the supporting software for the mouse, run it and you are set to go. The only downside to using it on a Mac is that there is no easy way to control spaces.

Performance
In a word – good. The Microsoft Sculpt Mobile mouse shows off BlueTrack technology, which means that you can use it on any surface. We used the mouse on a wooden table, glass surface, velvet cloth and our jeans and the mouse worked well on all of them. We tested the mouse from a distance of about 10 feet and it worked smoothly. The polling rate delivered by the Microsoft mouse is 125Hz, which is standard for USB mice. If you want to increase the sensitivity, you can do so with the Microsoft driver software.
Coming to the left and the right clicks, they are soft and comfortable. If you are someone who likes to use the mouse harshly by tapping really hard on the mouse, this device has the ability to take some abuse.
The scrolling wheel works four ways but there are times when that is a little uncomfortable to use considering the size of the mouse. You can add functionality to the left and right push of the mouse wheel. This can be done from the settings of the mouse.
