The overall scores do differ but not to the extent that majority of the high-end consumers might dump their existing cards and move to this one. NVIDIA has already announced a dual GPU GK-110 TITAN Z and we can hope for a similar leapfrog game to begin anew.
The Galaxy GTX 780 Ti HOF card is clocked at 1006MHz while this card is clocked at 1020MHz. The 14MHz increment might not seem to be much and quite frankly, it isn’t. However, in the extremely competitive environment that enthusiasts thrive in, this increment does matter.
Build
Physically there is absolutely no difference between the HOF and the HOF cards. Everything from the housing, the fans, the PCB and the rear plate were all the same. In all likelihood, the only difference between the HOF and the HOF cards could be a better binned GPU. The review of the GTX 780 Ti HOF can be found here.
Benchmarks
Now that you’ve read the previous review we can focus on what actually changed in this particular SKU. Since the physical build is the same the amped up MHz has made its presence felt through all the benchmarks.
Synthetic
In 3DMark Firestrike we saw an increment in the score across all parameters. The graphics score went up by 303 points while the physics which is more dependant on the CPU showed a 126 point increment. This aspect is slightly surprising since we normally don’t see a fluctuation of such a wide margin. The overall score went up by 269 points.
Gaming
First up was Bioshock Infinite and a drop of 28 FPS was observed compared to the previous set of drivers. So we completed a few extra runs and came up with the same result. However, on the same drivers the difference between the HOF and the HOF is negligible.
In Tomb Raider, the performance increment was observed but it remained within the error margin. The same goes for Hitman Absolution as well.
The Sleeping Dogs benchmark did show a noticeable improvement on medium configuration but the Ultra and Low configurations returned more or less the same results as the HOF card.
Temperatures
Under load conditions we did notice a drop of 4 degrees. This could be attributed to the BIOS of the card being different. Since the HOF has a higher clock speed it can be expected to heat up more than the HOF even if the difference is miniscule. With this in mind the manufacturers increment the maximum RPM of the cooling fan to compensate. This later translates to the drop in load temperatures.
