D-Link DSL-2640T Review

VERDICT:

At Rs. 3,200, it is cheaper than some well known brands, but you get what you pay for. It is good value for money, considering the number of features it has. What it doesn’t have, is an attractive design so you can keep it on your table for everyone to see. For a user who has a multiple PCs and a laptop, this ADSL Wireless router makes perfect sense to buy.

Great Features, Good Value

If you can find a telephone line, you’ve found an ADSL2 connection. Country wide ISPs like BSNL and MTNL provide users with broadband connections and every single one has a DSL modem with them.

The D-Link DSL-2640T is an ADSL modem and a WiFi router in one single solution. The router has provision for 4 wired ports and a port for the telephone line. This is an 802.11g router. The design is the standard design D-Link uses for most of its ADSL modems. Setting up the router is incredibly simple and the installation CD guides you through the setup. Unlike some of the other D-Link models, this one has no option to connect the device to the PC via USB.

The Web interface is poor and has a very amateurish look to it. There are plenty of features in the interface though. There is everything from firewalls and port forwarding to parental control built into it.

File transfers on a wired network are fast. A 700 MB file takes around a 100 seconds to copy. There are no visible latency issues with the DSL-2640T. One of the things you notice is that the DSL-2640T gets a little warm even when idle.
