Photographers assemble! World Photography Day is here and it is a great excuse to click some amazing pictures, especially with the one camera that’s always by your side aka your smartphone. Phone cameras have come a long way, and with a few simple tricks, you can take photos that look like they were shot with a pro camera. In this article, I am going to tell you 10 easy tips to help you make the most out of your phone’s camera.
Clean your lens
Before you start clicking pictures, make sure the lens is clean. It’s easy to forget, but a smudged lens can mess up your photos. A quick wipe with a soft cloth can make a huge difference.
Use gridlines for better composition
Turning on gridlines in your camera settings can also help. They guide you in placing your subject off-center which makes your photos look more interesting and professional.
Tap to focus
Your phone probably lets you tap on the screen to focus on a specific area. Do it to capture your subject sharp and stand out.
Adjust the exposure
Auto settings are convenient, but sometimes your phone might not get it right. Try adjusting the exposure manually by tapping on the screen and sliding to tweak the brightness. It gives you more control, especially in tricky lighting.
Play with angles
Don’t just shoot from eye level experiment and try getting low to the ground, shooting from above, or finding a unique angle. It can make your photos much more dynamic.
Seek out natural light
Whenever possible, use natural light. It’s softer and more flattering than your phone’s flash. If you’re outside, early morning or late afternoon light (the golden hour) is your best friend.
Skip the zoom
Resist the urge to zoom in if you don’t have a telephoto sensor in your phone. Zooming on a phone usually means losing detail. Instead, move closer to your subject to keep the quality intact.
Explore camera modes
Take advantage of the different camera modes your phone offers. Portrait mode, night mode, panorama, each one is designed to help you capture specific types of shots.
Keep it steady
Blurry photos? No thanks. To avoid them, keep your phone as steady as possible when you’re shooting. Use both hands, lean against something for support, or use a tripod if you have one.
Edit lightly
Editing can take your photos to the next level, but don’t go overboard. A few tweaks to brightness, contrast, and saturation can do wonders without making your photos look over-processed.
With phones offering quite powerful cameras, photography has become so handy. So get out there and start capturing some great moments!
