WhatsApp will let you decide when to automatically delete channel media: Report
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a ‘auto-remove media’ feature for channels.
This feature is expected to allow users to decide when to automatically delete channel photos and videos.
For this feature, WhatsApp is expected to add a new section called ‘Channel Settings’.
Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly working on a ‘auto-remove media’ feature for channels. This feature is expected to allow users to decide when to automatically delete channel photos and videos.
According to a report by a known WhatsApp tipster publication, WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is working on a feature to manage when to automatically remove channel media from the device.

For this feature, WhatsApp is expected to add a new section called ‘Channel Settings’ where users can choose when images and videos shared within channels have to be automatically removed from the device.

“At the moment, WhatsApp might not immediately delete channel media from the user device as the default option is ‘Never’, and this could cause users to unintentionally accumulate a significant amount of channel media on their devices over time, potentially leading to storage issues,” the report said.
This new feature for channel media is expected to provide users with greater control over how long the media remains on their device, enhancing their overall WhatsApp experience. With the feature, users will also no longer need to manually delete their channel media to free up storage space on their devices.
The deleted media will likely be downloaded once the user opens the channel again. Also, it seems like that this is an individual setting, allowing users to disable it for one channel while keeping it active for another channels.
WhatsApp Channels were launched in India earlier this month. For those who are unaware, WhatsApp Channels are a one-way broadcast tool for admins to send text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls.
In WhatsApp Channels, users can also react using emojis to give feedback and see a count of total reactions. Also, whenever users forward an Update to chats or groups it will include a link back to the channel so that people can find out more.
It’s worth noting that following a channel won’t reveal your phone number to the admin or other followers. Who you decide to follow is your choice and it’s private.
