Zopo Mobile, the latest Chinese entrant in the Indian smartphone market, announced its Speed 7 smartphone in India, today. The Zopo Speed 7 is a mid-segment smartphone, and offers mid-range specifications. It will compete against the likes of Xiaomi Mi 4i and Asus Zenfone 2, being priced at Rs. 12,999. We had the chance to spend some time with the phone at its launch, and here's what our first impressions were.
Key specs of the Zopo Speed 7:
SoC: Mediatek 6753 octa-core
RAM: 3GB
Display: 5-inch, 1080px
Storage: 16GB
Camera: 13.2MP primary, 5MP secondary
Battery: 2500mAh
Like every other recommendable phone in its category, the Zopo Speed 7 also features a Full HD display — a 5-inch one. However, it isn't too bright, and is quite reflective as you can see here. Viewing angles, we found, were fine.
Above the display is the 5MP front-facing camera, and the camera software offers Beautify features on tap. Nothing fancy, really.
The phone has pedestrian design from the front, but the side trim and the back cover does lift the design factor somewhat, thereafter. The sides give a metal-build impression, but they are not. The material is plastic, and so is the back cover, which felt quite flimsy. Competing phones like the Asus Zenfone 2 has a far more sturdier build and design.
The 13.2MP camera at the back comes with a single LED flash. Spec muggers can take a note that the camera lens has an f/2.2 aperture. Images taken looked decent, but the colours appeared a little dull in our opinion.

The 2500mAh battery is removable which is in contrast to most modern phones, that are adhering to non-removable battery setups. Some may find this useful, although other major phones in this category offer 3000mAh battery capacity or above.
