Xiaomi has unveiled its most affordable smartphone in India yet. Priced at Rs. 5,999, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A features a really good specification set and might turn out to be a really good option for budget buyers looking to purchase a device below 6K. The phone has the same size as the Redmi 3S, but that is the only similarity between the two.
Let’s go over the Xiaomi Redmi 4A specifications first, which in our opinion seem quite promising
Display: 5-inch, 720p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 425
RAM: 2GB
Storage: 16GB
Battery: 3120 mAh
OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Connectivity: 4G VoLTE, Infrared sensor
SIM: Hybrid SIM slot with microSD support
On holding the phone, we had a strong sense of nostalgia and could not help but equate the feel of the device to that of the Redmi 3S. The screen size is the same and so is the resolution. Even the positioning of the rear camera and the buttons is exactly the same.
Although, difference in design can be seen in the build quality, as unlike the 3S, this has an all plastic build with a slightly bulgy exterior. However, it must be said that the quality of materials used seems satisfactory.
The 5-inch HD display on the phone looks quite good and feels very responsive. The UI you see here is the MIUI 8, which is running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There is no word on Android 7.0 Nougat update.
The power and the volume keys rest on the right side of the device. The three navigation keys are still capacitive and are not backlit.
At least Xiaomi has kept the IR blaster, making it one of the few devices to offer one under the sub-6K segment.
The 13MP rear camera on the device is aided by autofocus and supports HDR. Initial images taken look good and are better than a majority of devices we have tested in the sub-6K segment.
There is a single speaker at the back, which seems adequately loud, but we need to test it more to give you a final verdict.
