They say the Xiaomi Mi 6 is not going to come to India. Well, we shall see. In the meanwhile, we did get our hands on the Chinese unit for about an hour. Now, that's just enough time for us to give you a quick glimpse of the device, leaving you with our first impressions.
Specs:
Display: 5.15 inch 1080p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
RAM: 6GB
ROM: 64/128GB
Operating System: Android 7.1 Nougat
Battery: 3350 mAh
Camera: 12MP dual-camera
The glass back feels premium, but it is a fingerprint magnet indeed. The Mi 6 also feels heavier than the Mi 5, which gives it a sort of heft, that feels good.
The edges are round this time, replacing the Mi 5's sharper finish. Hence, the sides don't dig into your hands and the design feels more seamless.
The dual-camera setup on the back follows Apple's technique of putting one telephoto lens and another wide angle lens. Both cameras have 12MP sensors and Xiaomi has even 2X optical zoom to the phone.
The fingerprint sensor once again rests on the front, however it's no longer a raised button. The sensor is indented into the body, but can still be used as a button too.
We had hoped Xiaomi would bring the design philosophy it showed on the Mi Mix to this year's flagship. Alas! The Mi 6 still has the front camera and other sensors above the screen. It's 5.15 inch display makes it quite compact though.
There's a USB Type-C port on the bottom, but the phone is missing a headphone jack.
Lastly, Xiaomi has retained the curved edges seen on the Mi 5, which adds to the phone's ergonomics.
Overall, the Xiaomi Mi 6 feels premium, but it's not a huge design overhaul either. The internals have been improved though, and the complete package seems worth looking forward to.
