Celebrities have been known to endorse tech products often, but not all these campaigns are successful. With endorsements on Twitter, Facebook and so many other places, it's hard to keep your guard up always. The result? Controversies galore. Here are our picks.
Hugh Jackman for Micromax
Is it just us or does anyone else think Wolverine is a misfit for this one? The Canvas Turbo wasn't Micromax's best selling device anyway and Hugh Jackman hasn't been associated with the brand since. All it did was mark the fact that Micromax was becoming a big game player slowly.
U2 for Apple
You obviously remember the iPhone 6 launch a few months ago. U2 and Apple decided to force the band's new album, Songs of Innocence, into iTunes users' libraries. Little did they known, the reactions they would incur. Bono apologised to the public and Apple had to give people a way to remove the album.
Ranveer Singh for Samsung
The Galaxy S4 didn't sell as much as the Galaxy S3, marking the beginning of the fall for Samsung. Ok, that's an exaggeration. But Ranveer Singh's cheezy rendition of the Gangnam style at the S4 launch in Mumbai was covered worldwide, with words that he was definitely not hoping to read.
Kevin Spacey for Olympus PEN
Even god falters sometimes. Actually, he doesn't. There's nothing wrong with Spacey being himself in this advertisement. The problem is that the ad says absolutely nothing about the camera itself. Oh well, we've all made bad decisions.
Alicia Keys for BlackBerry
BlackBerry parted ways with Creative Director Alicia Keys in January this year, less than a year after employing her. If that wasn't enough. Keys tweeted about her BB appointment a few minutes after the original event, except, the Tweet clearly mentioned that it was made from an iPhone. Oh snap!
Lebron James for Samsung
A few months ago, Lebron James had been hired to promote the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and everybody knew that the basketball star had been using the phone. Hence, when James tweeted about his phone deleting all his data by itself and rebooting, everybody knew who the culprit was. The tweet was taken down quickly enough, with disaster management measures in the form of another tweet from James that said the earlier one was a false alarm. Really? If you say so.
Oprah Winfrey for Microsoft
Oprah did something similar to the two above as well. The celebrity tweeted about the Microsoft Surface tablet, telling her followers how she bought 12 of them for Christmas Gifts. Again, the tweet was sent from an iPad. Umm......
Kate Upton for Samsung
While the three above made the mistakes on Twitter, Kate Upton is a class apart. The model was invited to attent the Galaxy Note 4 launch and of course was photographed on multiple occassions there. Someone forgot to tell her to remove her iPhone from the frame in this image. Ehem....
David Ferrer for Samsung
Tennis stars are alert while on the court, but being a brand ambassador is a full time activity. This tweet from Ferrer tells you how much he loves his Galaxy S4. It seems he doesn't love it enough to tweet from it though!
Bonus Round!
Kim Jong Un
This one isn't an endorsement either and neither is it confirmed. In this picture of Kim Jong Un, where he's in a meeting with his advisors, an all black phone is seeing lying next to him. Speculations were that the North Korean despot is using a Samsung phone, the biggest smartphone brand in the world and from South Korea. Now wouldn't that be embarassing?
