The selfie craze is picking up by the day, and it's companies like Samsung and others who are credited for making breakthroughs in this direction. However, Sony was one of the first to recognise this trend and come up with a phone for it. The Sony Xperia C3 was the company's first selfie oriented phablet, and it has followed it up with the Xperia C4. The selfie oriented phablet will sell in India from June onwards and the pricing is yet to be revealed.
The Xperia C4 runs on the 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6752 octa-core SoC, which is the same as what we've seen on the Gionee Elife S7 and some other smartphones. It has 2GB of RAM.
The main aspect of this smartphone is of course the 5MP front camera that is accompanied by a flash, in order to aid low light selfies. Sony has also added a bunch of software features that allow you to edit your selfies and so on.
There is also a 13MP rear camera on the smartphone. Up from the 8MP on the Xperia C3.
There's also a 5.5 inch 1080p display, which has really wide viewing angles. The screen feels nice as well.
While the body is made of plastic, it's good quality plastic with a matte finish. The Xperia C4 feels quite good in terms of build and design.
The Xperia UI runs on this smartphone, alongside Android Lollipop. There are very few traces of Google's Material Design.
The rounded edges, which Sony had used in the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact, are seen on the Xperia C4 as well.
The phone weighs 147 grams and is 7.9 mm thick.
The Xperia C4 has 16GB storage, which is expandable to 128GB using a microSD card.
The 2600 mAh battery on the Xperia C4 is a disappointing choice, since phablets could easily have bigger batteries.
The phone will be available from June and Sony hasn't announced the pricing yet. It will be available in Black and White colours.
The Xperia C4 seems like a worthy upgrade to the Xperia C3, but Sony has to get the pricing right in order to make it attractive enough to buy. The phone gets the build and design right, and the camera seems nice as well. Of course, we'll pass a verdict only after finishing our review.
