Motorola announced a new range of phones called Moto Z in the US earlier today. The phone is slated to come to India later this year and is going to be the flagship for the company. The Moto Z lineup consists of two devices, the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force. Both are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, but the Moto Z Force features a much larger battery and a better camera.
Let’s start with key specifications for the Moto Z:
Display: 5.5-inch, 1440p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 32/64GB
Camera: 13MP, 5MP
Battery: 2600mAh
OS: Android 6.0.1
The phone features a 5MP front facing camera, which is aided by a flash. The camera also capable of recording videos in upto 1080p.
Unlike the Moto X or Moto G, the new Moto Z is quite slim and is just 5.5mm thick. There is also a camera bump at the back.
This is also the first time Motorola has opted for a USB Type-C port. Further, Motorola has removed the 3.5mm headphone jack altogether, just like the recently launched LeEco Le 2 and Le Max2.
Here is a quick look at the specifications of the other phone launched by Motorola, the Moto Z Force:
Display: 5.5-inch, 1440p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 32/64GB
Camera: 21MP, 5MP
Battery: 3500mAh
OS: Android 6.0.1
The Moto Z Force features a larger battery and is a little thicker than the Moto Z. At just 7mm though, it is still quite slim.
The Moto Z Force features a Shattershield display. This display was earlier seen on the Moto X Force, which the company launched in India earlier this year.
The Moto Z Force has a 21MP camera at the back. It should be noted that this, and 13MP rear sensor of the Moto Z are aided by OIS (optical image stabilization) and laser autofocus.
While the phones are good, they are made even better thanks to the new Moto Mods. These are snap-on mods, which are somewhat similar to the LG G5 Friends. They connect with the phone using the contact point located at the back of the phone.
There are three main Moto Z mods, one is a simple battery mod called the Incipio offGrid Power Pack, there is one speaker mod from JBL called the JBL SoundBoost. Finaly, there is a mod that can transform the Moto Z in a portable projector.
This is the Moto Z insta-share projector mod. It can project a 70-inch image and has an hour long battery, after which it utilizes the phone's battery. It projects at a resolution of 854 x 480p.
