Earlier this year, Samsung tested the online-only waters with the Samsung Galaxy J5 and J7. Now, the company has plans to bring in even more affordable smartphones, and has launched the Galaxy On5 and On7 in India. The phones will be available exclusively via Flipkart from tonight, and are priced near the 10k mark. We had the chance to take a look at the phones at their launch, and here's what we think of them, so far.
We begin with the bigger of the two phones – the Samsung Galaxy On7. Here's taking a quick look at the specifications:
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 410
CPU: 1.2GHz quad-core
RAM: 1.5GB
Display: 5.2-inch, 720p
Storage: 8GB
Camera: 13MP, 5MP
Battery: 3000mAh
Price: Rs. 10,990
Here are the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy On5, the smaller brother.
SoC: Exynos 3475
CPU: 1.3GHz quad-core
RAM: 1.5GB
Display: 5-inch, 720p
Storage: 8GB
Camera: 8MP, 5MP
Battery: 2600mAh
Price: Rs. 8,990
Both the phones have 720p HD resolution displays, and use TFT panels. While the On5 has a 5-inch display, the On7 features a larger, 5.5-inch one.
Colours look mildly washed out on both the displays on first glance. The screen also had evident colour shift, after a certain tolerance point.
On top, both the phones feature 5MP front-facing cameras, which seemed decent at best, in the limited lighting conditions.
Samsung is still sticking with the physical home button, and the two navigation keys on either side. Also, unlike other upcoming phones, it does not feature a USB Type C port.
While the Samsung Galaxy On5 has an 8MP camera at the back, the On7 features a 13MP rear camera sensor. Both the cameras have autofocus, and come with single LED flash. In the short while that we spent with the phone, the image quality did not seem too bad.
The choice of material in this affordable segment is still plastic. The back is removable, and features a faux leather finish. The sides of the phones also get a metal finish to add a dash of smoothness and stability.
Both the phones come with removable battery packs. The Galaxy On5 features a 2600mAh battery, and the On7 has a 3000mAh one. Samsung claims that both phones are capable of running for entire days, on a single full charge.
Both phones support 4G, and come with dual-SIM capacities. Both these phones also support microSD cards, and the storage is expandable upto 128GB.
