The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is the latest iteration of the acclaimed Note lineup. Samsung has combined the design and looks of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with the productivity quotient that the Note platform provides. Priced at Rs. 59,900, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is not inexpensive, but it was never meant to be. Like every year, Samsung has improved the productivity features of the device, with the Galaxy Note 7 receiving an iris scanner.
Before we take a closer look at the phone and the accessories on offer, here is a quick rundown of the specifications of the device.
Display: 5.7-inch, curved edge, 1440p
SoC: Exynos 8890
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 64GB, 256GB expandable
Camera: 12MP Dual Pixel rear, 5MP front
Battery: 3500mAh
OS: Android Marshmallow
The Galaxy Note 7 is a remarkable looking phone, and much attention has been given to its display. The signature 5.7-inch Note display is now curved on both sides, making the phone slimmer and easier to use in one hand. The display is also HDR-ready and currently is the only phone in the market to have this technology. The new, improved stylus is also a joy to use, and Samsung has added new features to it as well.
The iris scanner is perhaps the most notable addition to the phone. It adds an extra layer of security over the fingerprint scanner on the phone. There is a secure folder on the phone as well, which can be locked using the iris scanner. It also includes Samsung’s Knox security software.
The build of the phone feels premium, and it looks quite similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone, although the curved edges are less prominent on the Note 7. The Note 7 features Gorilla Glass 5 both on the front and back, and is built purely out of metal and glass.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge featured great camera setups and the Note 7 retains the same 12MP Ultra Pixel camera. It takes good photos across most lighting conditions, and can even shoot videos in 4K. On the front, there is a 5MP camera.
Samsung also announced three new accessories - Gear VR, Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX wireless fitness earbuds. The latest version of the Gear VR headset brings refinements to design. It now has a smoother touchpad, drops the oversized front cover and some grams from its weight. To make it compatible with the new Note 7, the USB I/O is now modular. The device is priced at Rs. 7,290, and will go on sale in the first week of September.
Samsung Gear Fit 2
Improving over last year’s Gear Fit, the new Gear Fit 2 is powered by a more powerful, dual-core 1GHz SoC. Samsung has also improved the display and made it more flush. However, the most important change is that the text orientation has now been aligned properly. The Samsung Gear Fit 2 is priced at Rs. 13,990, and will be available later this month.
Samsung Gear IconX wireless fitness earbuds
The Samsung Gear IconX Bluetooth Fitness Earbuds are completely wireless, and feature a built-in music player. The Gear IconX has 4GB of internal memory and can play songs directly, alongside music playback from your phone via Bluetooth. Since these are meant for sports, they come with splash resistant P1i nano-coating. The Samsung Gear IconX wireless fitness earbuds are priced at Rs. 13,490, and will be available later this month.
