The QNAP TVS-471 is an incredibly powerful NAS solution which is an excellent choice for video editors as it’s designed for heavy and quick I/O operations and features full support for 4K. The front of the box displays a few features along with a picture of the NAS.
Ther rear of the box talks about the various ways in which the TVS-471 is efficient and secure while also offering plenty of features enough for businesses as well.
Here is the unboxed device. They’ve used a dark gray and silver colour scheme and we must say that the body of the device is built really well.
The box contents include 3 x Ethernet cables, 1 x power cord, 2 x expansion slot covers, keys for locking the drives, two packets full of screws for drive installation, a quick installation guide and the NAS device itself. (Hard disk drives not included).
Here is the device with all of the drive bays utilised by installing 4 x WD Red 5.0TB hard drives. It’s really easy to install drives inside this NAS solution.
The back of the device is well populated as far as connectivity is concerned as it features a power port, 2 x cooling fans, 2 x expansion slots, space for Kensington lock, a pinhole reset button, 4 x Gigabit Ethernet ports, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, and one HDMI port.
Coming to the front of the device again, you’ll see that there is a small display to the right of which they’ve also included two buttons for easy operation. There are three LED indicators for the NAS Status, USB and LAN while each of the drive bay has a separate LED indicator to notify the user about the HDD activity.
Then there’s the power button below which there’s another USB 3.0 port with an instant copy functionality. You can also see the inside of the NAS where the drives meet the SATA 6 GBps port and power connectors at the back.
Each of the drive caddies that they’ve included with the NAS solution are well built and made of metal. They secure the drives nicely and since they can also accommodate 2.5” drives, you can pop in an SSD if you so desire.
The drive caddies are easy to pull out of the bays and they can also be locked securely using the included keys.
We spoke of the build quality of the device earlier and it sure is really good.
