The Oppo R9s smartphone was launched back in October 2016 along with the R9s Plus, and although it may not eventually make it to India, it still seems to be a fine smartphone. Here's taking a look.
The Oppo R9s is a selfie-centric device and features a 16MP front-facing camera. Here is a quick glimpse of its key specifications:
At first glance, the R9s looks very similar to the Oppo F1s, but the design is now much refined. The screen-to-body ratio has been increased while the overall dimensions have been shrunk, making the R9s feel more compact to the Oppo F1s. It also has minimal bezels, making the display wider. The 16MP front camera is equipped with Oppo’s Beautify 4.0 feature, and also supports HDR.
The display looks nice, with good colour saturation. The 1080p panel is sharp and bright, making it easily visible under direct sunlight despite being reflective. The fingerprint scanner is integrated with the home button, and seemed quite fast and accurate.
The phone looks quite good, with seamless, rounded edges that somewhat resemble the iPhone 7. The Oppo R9s looks like a premium smartphone, and even feels so in hand.
All the ports are located at the bottom, including microUSB. Oppo is not moving on to USB-C port, although the R9s still supports VOOC charging. This enables the R9s to provide almost 2 hours of talktime, with just 5 minutes of charging.
The 16-megapixel rear camera seemed decent, upon initial inspection. However, the lens protrudes out of the body, exposing it to possible, accidental bumps.
