Nokia has started the year in India with a bang. The company has launched almost all the new phones in India it showcased a month back in MWC 2018. From the budge centric Nokia 1 to the Premium Nokia 8 Sirocco is now available in India. While the Nokia 1 has already been available for a week, the new Nokia 6 is going on sale today for Rs. 16,999. The Nokia 7 Plus and the 8 Sirocco will go on sale from 30th April for Rs. 25,999 and Rs. 49,999 respectively. The phones look quite good and from the little time we have spent with them seem to have a better build quality as well. Out of all the new phones, we have the Nokia 7 Plus with us this week. Here is the phone in pictures.
Before we move any further, let’s go over the specifications
Display Size: 6-inch
Display resolution: 2160 x 1080p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 660
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 64GB
Rear camera: 12MP + 12MP
Front camera: 16MP
Battery: 3800mAh
OS: Android 8.0
The phone features a vibrant 6-inch LCD display. This is Nokia’s first attempt at making an 18:9 aspect ratio display. That said, the phone still has a larger top and bottom bezels compared to many other phones.
The phone looks quite good. It has a very distinctive design compared to other phones around the same price. The flat copper band around the phone gives it a very premium look and the matte black and copper paint job do remind us of the HP’s Spectre x360 laptop.
The only thing that breaks the continuity of the copper band around the phone is the speaker grills at the bottom and the USB type-C port.
We are generally not impressed by the paint job on smartphones these days, but the ceramic feel on the Nokia 7 Plus is quite impressive. Although, it does get smudged quite easily.
At the back, the phone has a dual 12MP camera setup. The primary 12MP camera uses a f/1.75 aperture and secondary camera 12MP camera has a f/2.6 aperture. The few images we took from the phone seem good, but we are yet to fully test its capabilities.
The best part about these new gen Nokia phones is that all of these will run on the Android One platform. This means that these devices will feature pure stock android (mostly) and will be updated to newer Android versions more quickly.
