Motorola launched its Moto X Play in India today. With prices starting from Rs. 18,499 for the 16GB version, it will give healthy competition to the Asus Zenfone 2, Xiaomi Mi 4 and others in the sub-20K category. The new Moto X Play is a mid-tier phone, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 and promises a lot.
Before we start, let’s go over the specs first:
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 615
RAM: 2GB
Display: 5.5-inch 1080p
Camera: 21MP, 5MP
Storage: 16/32GB
Battery: 3630mAh
On first look, the phone can be mistaken as a bigger Moto G (3rd gen). The top and bottom of the phone feature a set of stereo speakers. At the top there is a 5MP camera as well.
The top edge of the phone has the dual-SIM tray as well as the 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone also supports microSD cards of upto 128GB. The bottom edge has a microUSB port for data and charging.
The right edge of the phone has the power button as well as the volume rocker and the left edge is completely bare.
The 5.5-inch 1080p display from looks great, as we've seen with Motorola devices till now. The viewing angles felt very good.
The rear has a 21MP camera with a dual-tone LED flash. Now, this isn't the first time Motorola has come up with such a camera. Moto Turbo earlier had a 21MP camera as well. However, we can assure you, even though the megapixel count is same, the image quality has improved.
Although, the Moto X Play comes with a 21MP camera, it doesn't have the ability to shoot 4K video which is odd.
The Moto X Play will come in two colour variants — black and white. The back is has a soft touch matte like material, which feels grippy and nice to hold.
The back is removable and can be replaced with various other colours available. Motorola is also selling flip covers for the phone and these will also be available in various colour variants.
