LG is gradually attempting to make its mark in the budget smartphone market, first with the K series smartphones, and now with the newly announced X series. We got a chance to spend a while with the first LG X series smartphone in India, the LG X Screen, which features a secondary Always On display and will be available July 20 onwards at Rs. 12,990, on Snapdeal. Here's what it is all about.
Before we move any further, here is a quick glance at the specifications of the smartphone:
Display: 4.93-inch, 1280 x 720p; 1.76-inch, 520 x 80p SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 RAM: 2GB Storage: 16GB, expandable via microSD Camera: 13MP, 8MP Battery: 2300mAh OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
The cool bit about this phone is the secondary display that resides above the main display. The small display gives you notifications, and you can further swipe on it to access quick settings. It is an Always On display, which shows the time and date when the main display is off.
The phone is quite thin at 7.1mm and has a plastic build. Both the front and the back of the phone use clear fiberglass panels, instead of glass. Sandwiched between the two fiberglass panels is rounded plastic around the edge, which does resemble metal in finish, but is rather bland.
While the physical keys are placed on either side of the smartphone, the headphone jack and microUSB port are at the bottom. The single speaker unit is also here.
Form factor-wise, and especially from the back, the LG X Screen reminds us of the LG Nexus 4. The phone is quite small, and is very easy to hold and use with one hand.
The LG X Screen houses a 13MP primary camera, aided by a single LED flash. At the front, there is an 8MP camera to satiate self portrait requirements.
