LG might have delayed the launch of its next flagship by a few months, but that doesn't mean that the company was absent from MWC this year. The South Korean electronics giant had a few new phones at the event. One of the notable announcements from the company was the new V30 smartphone which now comes with an updated colour scheme and has the company’s brand new ThinQ AI. LG also showcased a couple of new budget smartphones which are expected to come to India as well. Here is a quick look at everything LG announced at MWC 2018.
We start with the LG V30S ThinQ edition. This is essentially an updated version of last year’s LG V30, but now comes integrated with LG’s ThinQ AI. Here is a quick look at the specification.
LG V30S Thin Q specs:
Display: 6.0-inch, 2880 x 1440p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
RAM: 6GB
Storage: 128GB
Rear camera: 16MP + 13MP
Front camera: 5MP
Battery: 3300mAh
OS: Android 7.1.2
There is a V30S+ ThinQ as well which features a higher 256GB storage, but the rest of the specifications are the same.
There is no significant change in the design apart from a couple of new colours that were added to the lineup. The glass back is still a fingerprint magnet and the fingerprint scanner again doubles as the power button. The rear camera at the back has seen slight software tweaks but otherwise, the hardware remains the same. So, you essentially get a 16MP + 13MP camera setup at the back with the primary camera offering an f/1.6 aperture.
The phone still comes with an IP68 certification and complies with MIL-810G standards. You will also get 6GB RAM on the phone instead of the 4GB. The storage size has also doubled and now the base storage is 128GB. On the V30S+ variant, the storage has been updated to 256GB.
The front-facing camera is a 5MP unit with f/2.2 aperture but is backed by a large 1.12-micron pixel sensor. The camera now also features two new modes, QLens and AI Cam. With QLens you can click a picture of a product, the AI will recognise it and you can then buy the product from the partner e-commerce website.
The other feature is the AI Lens. It can recognise and sort out the right camera settings between 8 categories - Portrait, Animal, City/Building, Sunrise, Flower, Sunset, Food, and Landscape.
Sadly, the new LG V30S and V30S+ ThinQ editions do not come with Android Oreo out of the box and are still running on Android 7.1.2
