LeEco announced two new LeEco smartphones, the Le 2 and Le Max 2. Both the smartphones offer some of the best hardware available in the market, and that too at a great price. Both the smartphones will come bundled with LeEco’s LeLive and LeVidi entertainment packages. We have reviewed the LeEco Le 2 already, and the Le Max 2 review is en route. Prior to that, here's giving you a closer look at LeEco's latest smartphones in India.
Let’s start with the phone that just outscored the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 in our test sheets. The Le 2 is a true, powerful successor to the Le 1s, and offers an all-round update at the same price as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
At an initial glance, the phone looks almost similar to the LeEco Le 1s. The bezels of the display are still wrapped under the glass touch panel. Here is the full specification sheet of the LeEco Le 2:
Display: 5.5-inch, 1080p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 652
RAM: 3GB
Storage: 16GB
Camera: 16MP, 8MP
Battery: 3000mAh
OS: Android OS 6.0.1
Price: Rs. 11,999
The display is quite good, offering vibrant colours and very smooth touch response. That said, the sunlight legibility of the Le 2 isn’t the best in its price category.
To the right side lies the power button and volume rocker, placed within a small groove along the edge. The edges of the phone are chipped, offering better grip and ease ergonomics.
Both the LeEco smartphones offer a USB-C port for data transfer and charging. However, both the smartphones have skipped on 3.5mm headphone jacks, in favour of USB-C driven CDLA audio delivery. The company is presently providing an adapter for the same.
At the back is a 16MP camera, which shoots decent photographs at best in terms of colour reproduction. Below the camera lies the fingerprint scanner.
Both the LeEco Le 2 and Le Max 2 smartphones come with Android Marshmallow out of the box. It is layered under LeEco's own eUI 5.6.
Let’s talk about the bigger and more powerful sibling of the Le 2. This is the Le Max 2, presenting similar hardware as the Xiaomi Mi 5 but at a lower price tag of Rs. 22,999. Here is a quick look at the specifications:
Display: 5.7-inch, 1440p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820
RAM: 4/6GB
Storage: 32/64GB
Camera: 21MP, 8MP
Battery: 3100mAh
OS: Android OS 6.0.1
Price: Rs. 22,999/29,999
Both the LeEco Le 2 and Le Max 2 get 8MP cameras at the front. The front-facing cameras have an f/2.2 aperture lens on the front.
The Le Max 2 has a larger, 5.7-inch display with 2560x1440-pixel resolution. The display is bright, but somewhat reflective.
At the bottom, there are dual speaker grilles on both the smartphones. However, the Le Max 2 only has a mono speaker, while the Le Max 2 has a stereo speaker setup.
Both the LeEco Le 2 and Le Max 2 get IR blasters, which combined with the default remote control app, can be used to control TVs, set top boxes, ACs and more.
At the back, the Le Max 2 features a 21MP camera aided by Phase Detection Autofocus and Optical Image Stabilization. There is a dual-tone LED flash as well.
