Jolla is a Finnish company created in 2011 by ex-Nokia engineers who worked on the late MeeGo team. They created a new mobile OS- Sailfish and made their own Sailfish based Jolla phone in late 2013. Now they are bringing the phone to India launch exclusively through snapdeal.com
Hardware
The phone packs a dual-core Qualcomm Snadragon 400 SoC clocked at 1.4GHz and 1GB of RAM. It has a 16GB internal space and supports a micro-SD card.
Software
Jolla's home-brewed Sailfish takes center stage here and does the basics well. From what we have seen thus far, the OS looks minimal and has a gesture based UI. The OS looks colourful and pleasant and adds features like live multitasking.
Design
The Jolla phone showcases a minimal design just like its software. It looks like Jolla has tried to give it a layered design with colourful polycarbonate back covers and a sturdy front half.
Camera
The jolla phone uses an 8 MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash. The camera may not have an HDR or Panorama mode but can record videos in 1080p Full HD.
Apps
Since Sailfish is not a mainstream OS, native apps are pretty limited. The phone therefore depends on Android apps and supports quite a lot Android apps via the Yandex app store.
Competition
The Jolla Smartphone is comes to the Indian market after much delay. As the prices of the current smartphones with the same specs have come down, it seems Jolla will face an uphill struggle if they are unable to price the phone competitively.
The Future
The Jolla Smartphone has a good design, a new and pretty UI but if they are unable to deliver on the app front, things might not work for them in India. As Xiaomi is here heating up the competition and Firefox OS based phones will join in soon to take on the dumb phones, Jolla has lot of ground to cover.
