The Jolla smartphone from Finland has finally arrived in India with its own operating system, Sailfish OS. The Jolla smartphone will be available in India exclusively via Snapdeal and is priced at Rs. 16,499.
Hardware
In terms of hardware, the new entrant from the Finnish manufacturer brings a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.6GHz. The Jolla phone runs on 1GB of RAM and comes with 16GB of on-board storage with microSD card capabilities.
Sailfish OS
Jolla brings a new Sailfish OS to the smartphone market which already has contenders running on Android, Windows Phone and BB10. Sailfish OS brings swipe gestures like peek and pull which are integrated throughout the OS itself. The OS seems to be a continuation of the Meego OS which came on the Nokia N9. This is no coincidence since the team behind the new Sailfish OS powering the Jolla phone comprises of ex-Nokia developers.
Design
The Jolla smartphone looks simple and minimal. The two part design on the phone gives the phone a layered look. The screen itself makes up the front of the phone and the back panel is a polycarbonate shell. Between these two panels the phone boasts a metal volume rocker and power button.
Screen and Camera
The smartphone comes with a 4.5 inch qHD display with Gorilla Glass 2 on top of it. As for the camera, there is an 8MP autofocus camera at the back and a 2MP camera at the front of the device.
App support
Any smartphone has to come with a good app support, and since Sailfish OS is not a mainstream OS, the exclusive app support is pretty limited as of now. The phone relies on Android apps which have been ported to the operating system or app support via third party app stores like Yandex.
