Sailfish OS

Jolla brings a new Sailfish OS to the smartphone market which already has contenders running on Android, Windows Phone and BB10. Sailfish OS brings swipe gestures like peek and pull which are integrated throughout the OS itself. The OS seems to be a continuation of the Meego OS which came on the Nokia N9. This is no coincidence since the team behind the new Sailfish OS powering the Jolla phone comprises of ex-Nokia developers.

Design

The Jolla smartphone looks simple and minimal. The two part design on the phone gives the phone a layered look. The screen itself makes up the front of the phone and the back panel is a polycarbonate shell. Between these two panels the phone boasts a metal volume rocker and power button.

App support

Any smartphone has to come with a good app support, and since Sailfish OS is not a mainstream OS, the exclusive app support is pretty limited as of now. The phone relies on Android apps which have been ported to the operating system or app support via third party app stores like Yandex.
