Oppo's new smartphone, the Oppo F1 is directed towards the selfie-obsessed demographic through a number of customisation options available inside the camera app. We got to spend some time with the device and here's a quick look at the specifications and other features offered.
The Oppo F1 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 616 SoC, with 3GB of RAM (LPDDR3) and 16GB internal storage, expandable up to 128GB. It's high time that smartphones dropped the basic internal storage of 16GB and moved on to a minimum internal storage of 32GB.
The phone also packs a 2,500mAh non-removable battery.
It runs on ColorOS v2.1, Oppo's customised version of Android, currently running Lollipop 5.1.1. The homescreen of the customised UI does seem cluttered but still works like a breeze throughout the system. Whether it maintains the same smooth experience after installing essential apps can only be determined after we review the device.
The Oppo F1 has an aluminium-alloy based body, partially giving a premium feel to the phone. The back panel houses the 13MP ISOCELL camera sensor with an f/2.2 aperture capable of phase-detection autofocus. Below the camera, you'll find the single-tone LED flash. The back panel sounded more like a plastic panel on tapping and if the back panel is indeed aluminium, it must be a separate panel inserted over the back.
On the left side of the Oppo F1, you'll find the volume rocker buttons. They made a clicking noise when pressed and didn't require much pressure. The buttons could have been placed a bit lower since it was a little difficult to reach them.
On the right, you'll find the hybrid dual-SIM card slot that can house two nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and one microSD card. The power button is placed below the dual-SIM card slot and had the same feel as the volume rockers.
The 3.5mm headphone jack is placed on the top and Oppo claims that the phone delivers superior quality audio.
At the bottom, you can find the micro-USB port beside the single mic slot.
The Oppo F1 has a 5-inch display protected by Gorilla Glass 4, following the 2.5D design with smooth chamfered edges. Although the 720x1280 resolution might sound underwhelming, the display looked sharp and bright.
The stock camera app has several features including Beautify, HDR, Double Exposure, Ultra HD, Slow Shutter etc. The 8MP front camera sensor with an f/2.0 aperture lets you take selfies, obviously, but the available features inside the app will make it easier to enhance them on the go.
The Oppo F1 is priced competitively at Rs. 15,990, available in two variants – Gold and Rose Gold. It is expected to hit the markets soon in the month of February.
