If you like the subtle looks of the Lenovo Legion Y540, but want a little bit more ‘grunt’ and a dash of colour, then you should take a look at the Lenovo Legion Y740. The laptop offers the same sleek looks as its sibling, but with different internals.
The Legion Y740 packs a 15.6-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and features Nvidia G-SYNC and Dolby Vision. Lenovo notes that it offers a 72% colour gamut with a refresh rate of 144Hz and a brightness of up to 500 nits.
The Legion Y740 features a full-sized keyboard with Corsair’s iCUE RGB lighting. Lenovo says that the keyboard offers 100% anti-ghosting and a response time of less than 1ms. It is also water repellent, which may come handy.
The RGB lighting is not limited to just the keyboard. It is also located inside the vents located on the side and rear of the device and the logo on the laptop lid.
Of course, a gaming laptop has to pack the right hardware. The Lenovo Legion Y740 is available with an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8300H processor or a 9th Gen i7-9750H processor. For graphics, the laptop is available with up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q.
In order to keep things cool, the Legion Y740 comes with Lenovo’s Coldfront cooling tech. This tech features a dual-channel thermal system with individual CPU and GPU cooling. It also features four thermal vents for improved airflow.
Most of the ports on the Lenovo Legion Y740 are located on the rear of the machine. Besides power, the ports at the back include a mini display port, an HDMI port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, an ethernet port and a Kensington lock slot. The right side of the laptop features a single USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, while the left packs a 3.5mm jack, and a Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C port.
