After almost half a decade, HP has come up with a Windows phone, and a mighty powerful one. The HP Elite x3 announced at MWC 2016 comes with a large 5.96-inch display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. It is running on Windows 10, and supports Microsoft’s Continuum. Here's taking a closer look at it.
HP has a big corporate market, and the company wants to exploit it further with the introduction of the Elite x3. It even comes with 5 pogo pin contact points, which can be used extensively in enterprise scenarios. Here are the specifications in brief:
The phone uses a 5.96-inch AMOLED display panel with 1440 x 2560-pixel resolution. Below it rests the Bang & Olufsen-powered speakers.
There is a 16MP rear camera on the phone coupled with a single LED flash. It uses a CMOS sensor with f/2.0 aperture lens.
The HP Elite x3 runs on Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft's latest iteration of the mobile operating system.
The phone supports Microsoft Continuum, which lets you connect the phone to a Mobile Extender — a laptop casing without the hardware inside. It connects to the Elite x3 using a USB-C port. It has its own battery, a number of ports and a proper keyboard.
The Mobile Extender has a 12.5-inch display and offers a 1920x1080-pixel resolution. It also comes with speakers powered by Bang & Olufsen.
Lastly, HP also showcased a Desk Dock for the HP Elite x3. The Desk Dock has a DisplayPort, two USB-A, one USB-C, and an RJ-45 Ethernet port.
