Hyve is a relatively new Indian company, trying to make its mark in our smartphone market. After launching two budget smartphones earlier this year, the company has now brought a flagship smartphone to the market, called Pryme. Priced at Rs. 17,999, the Hyve Pryme will be going up against the Lenovo Z2 Plus, Xiaomi Mi Max and Asus ZenFone 3 Max, among others.
Here is a quick look at the specifications of the Hyve Pryme:
The phone sports a large 5.7-inch display, which offers decent viewing angles and 73% screen-to-body ratio. However, the black bar running around the display does not look good up close.
The phone has metal all around. From the sand-blasted back to the chamfered edges, the phone feels good in hand. However, this is not the only smartphone to offer a metal back in the sub-20K smartphone segment. Other phones such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 2 and others offer a similar design.
The bottom part of the phone is plastic to enhance network reception, and seems prone to scratches and scuffs. Small scuff marks were already visible in the unit we used at its launch.
The Hyve Pryme has a 13MP camera at the back, which supports PDAF and can shoot videos in 4K. The company claims it produces great low light shots.
At the front, the device features an 8MP camera, aided by a front-facing flash.
The large display translates to a rather larger device. The phone is certainly not meant for one-handed usage, and ergonomics can be an issue.
