Right out of the box, the HP ProBook 640 G1 is dressed in the look and feel that pretty much sums up any business laptop. Having said that, it has a nice matte finish on its shell, which doesn't attract any sort of fingerprints. The colour-scheme of the HP ProBook is dark grey overall, and its two toned silver aluminium finish lends it a bit of class and elevates its desirability from a visual and aesthetics perspective.
Here you can see the HP ProBook 640 G1's screen lid in greater detail. The look is pretty good, and you can tell the laptop will hold its own in a boardroom meeting as well. Not exactly dull, slightly elegant is how we'd describe this one's look and feel.
The non-reflective matte screen is nice and even, and the laptop is built well, too. We faced no issues on the HP ProBook 640 G1 when it comes to build and design, as it has no flex or creaking corners to speak of, which is pretty good.
The HP ProBook 640 G1 has not only a good feel about it, from a design and looks perspective, but it also comes with pretty good internal hardware: an Intel Core i5-4300M chip, 4GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 graphics, and 500GB hard drive is good enough for most business users. The weight of this 14-inch laptop is 1.99 kg which isn't the lightest nor the heaviest.
Zooming in on the HP ProBook 640 G1's keyboard, you can clearly see that it has a well-defined, chiclet-key layout which is nice for typing. Also there's a trackpoint navigation option available (look closely at the circular key between G,H, and B) for users who're addicted to that mode of interacting with their laptops. Its touchpad is quite good to use, and the fingerprint reader (next to the Intel logo) is a good added security measure.
The HP ProBook 640 G1 looks bulky, and on its left edge it has the following connectivity ports: AC Power in, Gigabit Ethernet, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, DVD writer tray, and above it a smartcard slot. Below the USB ports, there's an SD Card reader slot, as well.
On the right edge of the HP ProBook 640 G1 has a single 3.5mm audio jack, followed by two more USB 3.0 ports. A DisplayPort is something we don't see in a lot of laptops, so that's nice, and next to it lies a VGA port. There are heat vents to keep the laptop running at an acceptable temperature and a Kensington lock port near to its right spine.
On the HP ProBook 640 G1's bottom panel, there lies a docking port (which is visible just below its battery compartment at the top), and a large compartment to unscrew and service its internals (like RAM, Wi-Fi adapter, HDD, etc). The HP ProBook 640 G1 sells at a price of Rs. 55,000.
