Earlier today Honor announced two budget smartphones - the Honor 5X and the Honor Holly 2 Plus in India. While the Honor 5X was originally launched in October in China, the Honor Holly 2 Plus is a brand new phone, which the company is launching first in India. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 8,499, and the phone offers some interesting features.
Let's take a look at the specifications of the first:
Display: 5-inch, 720p
SoC: Mediatek 6735P
RAM: 2GB
Storage: 16GB, supports microSD card
Camera: 13MP, 5MP
Battery: 4000mAh
The Honor Holly 2 Plus has a 5-inch 720p panel. It is bright and seems to have good colour saturation. The viewing angles are also quite good and we can say that this is one of the better displays we have seen on a budget smartphone.
The design of the phone seems like a more polished version of the original Honor Holly. It still features rounded edges and sizeable black bezels on either side of the display. Another thing worth noticing is that Honor has moved the three navigation keys from below the display. The navigational buttons are now on-screen. The phone also features a weave like pattern on the front as well as as on the back.
While the phone is still made of plastic, Honor has given the phone a metal finish on the sides. It even tries to imitate the drilled speaker grill look we generally see on other phones at a higher price. Honor claims that the phone offers a great audio experience and up to 30% higher volume than competing phones. We will put this claim to the test when we get the smartphone in for review.
Talking about the performance, the phone is powered a the Mediatek 6735P SoC. The 1.3GHz SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM felt quite smooth in the short time we spent with the phone. Navigating through the homescreens or hopping in and out of app was relatively fast. It was faster than the original Honor Holly.
As mentioned, the carbon fiber like weave pattern continues to the back. The phone gets a 13MP camera at the back, which is a nice upgrade from the last Holly phone. The front of the phone gets a 5MP selfie camera. We did try taking a couple of pictures but we will reserve our verdict about the camera of the smartphone for our review.
Remove the back cover of the Holly 2 Plus and we find a 4000mAh battery. The company claims that the phone can handle almost 2 days of usage with ease.
The phone offers two SIM slots and a separate microSD card slot.
Overall, we think, the Honor Holly 2 Plus is a good offering from Honor and will be able to deliver good performance for the price. Moreover, the large battery will help the phone survive for more than day of use. We will comment more about the phone once we get it for review.
