After launching the Honor 6X and Honor 8 Pro earlier this year, Honor is back with a brand new device. Called the Honor 9i, the highlight of the phone is the fact that it has a total of four cameras. Two at the front and two on the back. Besides this, you also get a bunch of other features such as an 18:9 display as aspect ratio and more. Here’s a quick look at the Honor 9i.
Before we go into the details, here is quick run down of the specifications
Display: 5.9-inch, 2160 x 1090p
SoC: HiSilicon Kirin 659
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 64GB
Rear camera: 16MP + 2MP
Front camera: 13MP + 2MP
Battery: 3440mAh
OS: Android 7.0
The thinner bezels also mean that the phone has a smaller footprint. The phone feels reasonably ergonomic and the all metal unibody frame gives the phone a premium feel.
There is a 13MP primary camera at the front, which is aided by a 2MP secondary camera that captures depth data. It also allows the phone to take portrait selfies.
Here is a look at images captured by the front facing camera. The one on the left is the normal mode with a beauty filter and the one on the right is taken in portrait mode. One can even adjust the blur after the image has been taken.
The rear camera also seems to be quite good, offering a 16MP + 2MP camera setup. Like the front facing cameras, the secondary camera also work to capture depth data.
The main camera UI is quite simple to use and gives you options to turn on portrait mode, beauty mode, live mode on the left side.
A swipe from the left and right will take you to various modes as well as settings. If you tap on the “More” icon in the mode panel, you end up in an additional tab shown on the far right. Honor might add more modes to the camera app in the coming days.
The images taken from the rear camera come out to be a little warm, but offer decent amount of details and good color reproduction.
Since there are two cameras at the back, you can also take portrait shots from the rear camera, like this one.
At the bottom of the phone, you get a headphone jack, microUSB port and the speaker. While the speaker seems decent and loud enough, the audio quality via the headphone seems quite good, thanks to the Huawei’s Histen sound effects.
Performance is handled by the Kirin 659 SoC, which is paired with 4GB of RAM. Initial impressions suggest that the phone is snappy and if you check out the synthetic benchmarks scores, they seem quite promising.
The phone also supports dual-SIMs and 4G VoLTE. Although, the secondary SIM slot is hybrid and you can either use a second SIM or a microSD card.
Huawei claims that the 3440mAh battery on the phone will provide a day's worth of usage and will last a 7 hour gaming session.
The phone features pretty much the same UI experience as the one offered on the Honor 8 Pro. So, you get Android 7.0 Nougat layered under EMUI 5.1
