Lava launched its Iris Fuel 60 smartphone, with a massive 4000mAh battery, yesterday. We take an initial look at what the phone brings to the table for a price tag of Rs. 8,888.
Display
At an initial glance the 5-inch HD display doesn't impress and leaves much room for improvement. In the short time we used the phone we noticed the colours looked muddy and unsaturated. Even though the specs of the display look okay on paper and it does use Gorilla Glass 3, it looks inferior to its rivals.
Internals
The latest entry from Lava uses a tried and tested but old 1.3GHz quad-core chipset by MediaTek. The phone has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. So, in terms of hardware the phone is not ahead of the curve.
Design
"Nothing out of the ordinary," sums up the design of the Iris Fuel 60. It has an orthodox candy bar design with a small metal strip at the bottom. At the back there is a loudspeaker slit and Lava uses a matte finish back which adds grip to the phone
Battery
When you remove the flimsy back cover, the 4000mAh non-removable battery is revealed. The company claims that the battery will provide 13.5 hours of 3G usage and will last you 2 days. Besides that the phone has 2 SIM slots and a microSD card slot under the back cover.
Camera
The smartphone has a 10MP rear camera with flash which is decent enough but we still don't know how it stacks up against the competition. On the front there is a 2MP camera for your selfies and video chats.
Off-screen buttons
Even though Google is pushing OEMs to go for on-screen navigation keys Lava has still opted for off-screen navigation ones. The navigation keys look outdated and are very dim to start with.
