Samsung has finally unveiled the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones, and both of them fulfil pretty much everything that leaks and rumours had revealed. From latest generation processors, to updated camera, Iris recognition and much more, here's looking at what's inside the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones.
Samsung pretty much hates bezels, and why not? The new, bleeding edge displays are unsurprisingly called 'Infinity' by Samsung, and are curved at both the edges alongside taking up almost the entirety of the front face.
The side rims look solid metal, and with the new design, Samsung has attempted at maximising screen-to-body ratios.
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are available in two screen sizes - 5.8" and 6.2", with screen resolutions of 2960 x 1440 pixels.
To make space, Samsung has removed the logo from the front, moved the fingerprint scanner back, and integrated the Home button to underneath the glass.
The rear camera retains the 12-megapixel resolution along with the Dual Pixel autofocus technology that was first introduced in the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. We wait for confirmation on sensor upgrades.
One of the key new features in the Samsung Galaxy S8 lineup is Bixby AI assistant, which understands context, is integrated into numerous Samsung services, can work with Augmented Reality services and can also be synced with third party services.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be made available in multiple shades, to give buyers a wider choice in terms of looks. Most of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ is all about the vast display.
The integrated Home button underneath the glass will use an integrated engine to provide physical key feedback. Alongside, the Galaxy S8 also retains the 3.5mm audio port and uses USB-C.
Here are the five colours that the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be made available in.
The fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back to make space for the display up front. Interestingly, it is not the only biometric verification for device security that you can use.
It also gets a multi-frame image processor that shoots multiple photographs at one time and combines to get more contrast and details into the photograph. This, coupled with the Dual Pixel technology, should improve imaging a fair bit.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 lineup uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC in USA and Exynos 8895 globally, built using 10nm fabrication process. It also has 4GB of RAM, and 64GB native storage.
Security steps in the Samsung Galaxy S8 devices include an Iris scanner, facial recognition, the rear fingerprint scanner, and the standard security steps like pattern and password.
Samsung has partnered with Harman to present AKG-branded in-ear headphones in box. You also get new covers, and the device will be available in USA from April 21. An India launch should not be too far away, and prices will be announced soon.
