Microsoft added the Lumia 540 smartphone to its current lineup of smartphones at an event last night in Delhi. The Lumia 540 is priced at Rs. 10,199 making it a contender in the budget segment. The smartphone will be going against many 7K phones from Android as well as it own cousin, the Lumia 640, which was also launched recently.
Microsoft Lumia 540 gets a 720p ClearBlack display. The display has a 64.9% screen-to-body ratio with the 5-inch display. It has a pixel density of 294 ppi.
The display is an IPS LCD panel and offers good colour reproduction. It is a laminated display which offers better touch experience.
At the top of the display, the smartphone gets a 5MP front-facing wide-angle camera.
At the bottom edge, one can find the microUSB data transfer cum charging port.
The right side of the phone gets the volume rocker as well as the power button.
Moving on to the back, we find that the back cover is made of glossy plastic. However, there is a black colour version of the phone which has matte back.
At the back, there is an 8MP camera with LED flash. It uses a 1/4-inch sensor which Microsoft claims can take great pictures.
Peeling away the back cover, one can see the two SIM card slots and a microSD card slot. The phone supports 3G and can take microSD cards upto 128GB.
There is a removable 2200mAh battery which Microsoft claims will have 14.8 hours of talktime on 3G.
The smartphone is slightly thicker compared to other smartphones in the segment at 9.4mm. The weight is also on the higher side at 152 grams. The entire device is also a fingerprint magnet which might be a dealbreaker for some.
Overall, the Lumia 540 is just another Lumia phone which tries to compete with its predecessor rather than its rivals from the Android side. However, we will talk about other features of the phone after we get the phone for review.
