This is ASUS' very own mini-PC which has an Intel Core i7-4600U processor, SSD storage, and Google's Chrome OS. Redefining computing? Let's take a look.
The ASUS Chromebox is a 12cm x 12cm sized box which is 4cm in height. It's built well and is extremely light and portable. It's on-off switch is located at one of its corners (bottom corner, in this picture). The whole device is smaller (but not slimmer) than the Apple Mac Mini even!
The ASUS Chromebox features 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band Wi-Fi, four USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0 and an SD card reader are included out of the box. This particular model runs on Intel Core i7-4600U processor, 4GB RAM, 16GB SSD, Intel HD 4400 graphics and of course Chrome OS. And it comes with a wired keyboard and wired mouse.
The ASUS Chromebox has ports lining on all its sides. Here you can see two USB 3.0 ports visible to let you connect a mouse, keyboard, or an external storage drive for extra storage space than the bare-minimum of 16GB SSD packed into any one of these boxes. The more the better, these USB 3.0 ports, and the Chromebox has four of them in all.
Here you can see the Kensington lock slot of the ASUS Chromebox. Next to it is also the SD Card reader slot built-into the mini PC's tiny dimensions, which is quick for getting all your camera's photos into the device and out on the Web.
This is where most of the I/O ports are housed on the frame of the ASUS Chromebox. Ethernet and power are situated next to two USB 3.0 ports. The HDMI and DisplayPort lets you connect dual monitors at the same time. The Intel Core i-based ASUS Chromeboxes can also play 4K "UHD" videos without stutter. We saw this on a compatible monitor.
The ASUS Chromebox also comes with VESA mount capability. On any compatible monitor, with the help of a bracket that is easily screwed into the device, the ASUS Chromebox can be easily tucked behind a display monitor's frame, saving you even more space and wire-clutter than you thought you would. Nice, eh?
This is how the VESA mounted ASUS Chromebox looks like. The Chrome OS-powered ASUS Chromebox are available for purchase in India, and have a starting price of Rs. 21,000 and go all the way up to Rs. 58,000, depending on its hardware configuration.
