The first day of CES 2015 has turned out to be quite big for car tech this time. Big names like Audi and General Motors have used the tech show to showcase various endeavours. The efforts range from self driving vehicles to in-car systems that assist you. Here's a look at what happened in car tech at CES today.
Hit the road Jack..
Audi has been working on its self driving car for a long time now. The company calls it Piloted Driving and CES is witness to perhaps its most ambitious test ever. Audi has come a long way and it's sending a self driving Audi A7 all the way from San Francisco to Las Vegas on a two day 550 mile drive, all automated.
High Voltage..
Chevrolet held a private event ahead of CES to give the press a 30 second sneak peek into its new Chevy Volt (in picture). The company talked about its in-car LTE connectivity and fuel efficiency. According to Chevrolet, users of the Volt have been averaging 900 miles per gallon. In addition, the in-car LTE connectivity will be rolling out across the brand this year.
Highway Star..
General Motors had more in store than just the Chevy Volt. The company's OnStar system for automobiles is becoming smarter. At CES, it unveiled OnStar's new capabilities, where it can monitor a car's battery, starter motor and fuel system. This in addition to its already present abilities to monitor engine oil, tire pressure etc. The system sends the user notifications when something's off.
Parroting..
Parrot is a drone and headphone manufacturer. However, at CES the company unveiled its new car entertainment system, which supports both Android Auto and Apple Car Play along with their respective Voice systems. It has a 7 inch 720p display along with HDMI and microphone input.
