Photography has developed as a big criteria when buying a good smartphone, but confusion sets in when picking the best of the lot. Here, we explore the various smartphones we have reviewed so far, to provide you the best camera smartphones that you can buy in India today.
Apple iPhone 7 Plus
Some may call the dual camera setup a gimmick, but the fact is, the iPhone 7 Plus has the best camera available today on a smartphone. It takes great photos in all lighting conditions, and can outperform any Android phone. Apple will also add the bokeh feature in an upcoming update, which will be an interesting addition to an already great camera unit.
Google Pixel XL
Google’s Pixel XL may not be as good as the iPhone 7 Plus on overall terms, but produces the best level of details on any smartphone. It is also the best Android phone to buy.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Samsung may have dropped the megapixel count from 16MP to 12MP on its flagship, but the new Sony IMX260 sensor does a fantastic job in dark conditions. It also reigned supreme as the best camera smartphone for a long time.
Apple iPhone 7
According to us, Apple’s latest iPhone 7 has a slightly inferior camera to the S7 Edge in terms of fine detail and image noise. That said, it still takes really good photographs.
Apple iPhone 6s
Last year’s Apple iPhone 6s makes its spot on the list, and still has one of the better camera available on a smartphone today.
HTC 10
After trying out the UltraPixel camera for many years, HTC has finally mastered it. The 12MP UltraPixel camera on the rear of the HTC 10 takes good images in all kinds of lighting conditions, and does particularly well with white balance.
Huawei P9
The Huawei P9 is a serious camera smartphone, and has two camera sensors at its back. One captures photos in colour, and the other captures in black and white. This improves image quality in low light, and its software optimisation also produces the much-desired bokeh effect.
Nexus 6P
It is almost a year old, but the Nexus 6P still has a very impressive camera. The Sony IMX377 sensor-powered 12.3MP camera does a great job in well-lit conditions.
LG G5
The LG G5 was the first production smartphone to offer modular add-ons. Not only that, but it also features a great dual-camera setup. It lags behind competitors because of inferior low light performance only.
Notable mentions
OnePlus 3
The latest addition to the OnePlus family replaces the old 13MP camera sensor for a new 16MP one, powered by the Sony IMX298 image sensor. It supports PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), which aids low light imaging.
Honor 8
The Honor 8 is one of the most affordable dual-camera setups in the market right now. It takes much of its cue from the Huawei P9, without the Leica certification. It does fairly well in terms of bokeh, and as per its price, makes for a fairly competent overall shooter as well.
