Asus has unveiled a trio of ZenFone 3 smartphones called ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and the Zenfone 3 Ultra. Asus has completely changed its design language with these phones as all three offer glass and metal construction. Furthermore, all three phones are powered by Qualcomm's SoCs.
Here are the specifications of the standard Asus ZenFone 3:
Display: 5.5-inch, 1080p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 625
RAM: 3/4GB
Storage: 32/64/128GB
Camera: 16MP, 8MP
Battery: 3000mAh
OS: Android 6.0
As we mentioned earlier, Asus has adopted a new design language for the ZenFone 3. Previous ZenFones had a plastic build, but the newest iteration features a full metal construction. Furthermore, the volume rocker of the phone has been moved to the side of the phone.
The device gets a single speaker, which Asus says is a 5 magnet speaker system. It is also equipped with NXP smart AMP, which can automatically increase the volume when required.
At the front, the ZenFone 3 features a 5.5-inch display with a 1920 x 1080p resolution. Also, while most modern phones are switching to on-screen navigation keys, Asus is sticking with capacitive navigations keys.
At the back, the Asus ZenFone 3 has a 16MP camera sensor made by Sony, which is aided by laser assisted autofocus, 4- axis OIS (Optical Image stabilization), PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) and a dual-tone LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is located below the camera.
The front and back of the Asus ZenFone 3 are covered in 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass. The phone is 7.7mm thin with a camera bump on the back. The device will be made available in Sapphire Black, Moonlight White and Shimmer Gold.
While the Asus ZenFone 3 is expected to be the most affordable ZenFone 3 variant from Asus, the ZenFone 3 Deluxe is the flagship phone of the company. Here is what it features:
Display: 5.7-inch, 1080p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820
RAM: 6GB
Storage: 64/128/256GB
Camera: 23MP, 8MP
Battery: 3000mAh
OS: Android 6.0
The ZenFone 3 Deluxe features a full metal construction and better specifications as compared to the standard variant. While the phone is slightly slimmer at 7.5mm, the display size has been increased to 5.7-inches.
Another major update comes in the form of the rear camera, which is a 23MP sensor by Sony. Like the more affordable ZenFone 3, the rear camera of the Deluxe is equipped with OIS, PDAF, laser autofocus and a dual-tone flash. Below the camera is the new fingerprint scanner.
Let’s move onto the Asus ZenFone 3 Ultra. This is the biggest ZenFone Asus has ever made. It features a large 6.8-inch display and the specifications are a mix of the standard Asus ZenFone 3 and the Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe.
Here is a quick rundown of the specification of the Asus ZenFone 3 Ultra:
Display: 6.8-inch, 1080p
SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 652
RAM: 3/4GB
Storage: 32/64/128GB
Camera: 23MP, 8MP
Battery: 4600mAh
OS: Android 6.0
The Asus ZenFone Ultra features a dual speaker system at the bottom, which is a good feature as the device is primarily aimed at content consumption.
The design of the phablet is quite different from the Asus ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 3 Deluxe phones. Instead of the curved and contoured back, the device has a flatter profile. The fingerprint scanner is at the front and the volume rocker is moved to the back.
