Android One Benchmarks: Micromax Canvas A1 performance & camera quality test

The first batch of Android One devices house the exact same core components. They run on Mediatek SoCs (specs detailed below). Here we have the Micromax Canvas A1 and Karbonn Sparkle V, based on Android One platform.

So, will Mediatek SoCs perform better on Android One devices? Here are the benchmark scores and comparison graphs spread over the next few slides followed by camera quality samples.

In Antutu, the Micromax Canvas A1 scores 18330 points, a higher score than the Moto E and Xiaomi Redmi 1S

3D Mark scores are very competitive, not as high as the ones from Qualcomm Snapdragon 200/400 chips but they still offer enough performance to play Temple Run class of games very smoothly, we will be putting the Android One devices though a barrel of latest, graphically intensive games to get a better idea of its gaming prowess. But, you should not expect a lot from the Mali 400 GPU. The Micromax Canvas A1 beats Moto E and Xiaomi Redmi 1S in Antutu, demostrating enough headroom for smooth multitasking and lag-free switching between apps.

In 3D Mark Ice Storm, the weak Mail 400 GPU goes end up being the last, but the 3224 score is the highest that we have ever logge for the Mediatek 6582 SoC.

Image quality from the Micromax Canvas A1 camera is good in sufficient light. For reference, it is slightly better than Moto E. In this shot, we like the colors and white balance performance. The images are sharp and there is plenty evidence of noise suppression engines working hard to make the images look better.

Low light performance of the 5MP camera is strictly average

We did encounter occasional blurred results, seems like the imaging algo works very aggressively to keep ISO value in check by lowering shutter speeds to achieve good exposure levels.
