Microsoft launched a bunch of device a couple of days ago, but none were more interesting than the Surface Book laptop. The device is a laptop, tablet, hybrid and convertible, all made into one, and looks really good on paper. Microsoft even went ahead in targetting the premium segment, showing figures against the Macbook Air. So, what is this the Surface Book? Here's all you need to know.
Specifications:
Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge:
The Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge connects the tablet part of the device to the keyboard and more. The hinge gives the PC a somewhat new look compared to what you get in the market.
Keyboard and trackpad:
The Surface Book comes with an integrated backlit keyboard with 1.6mm travel. It can also be detached from the tablet by pressing a dedicated button on the keyboard. The mechanism is called Muscle Wire Lock by Microsoft. As for the trackpad, the PC comes with Precision Glass trackpad with 5-point multi-touch.
Display:
The Microsoft Surface Book sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense display with a resolution of 3000x2000 pixels. It has a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch. The display can also be rotated at 360-degrees by disconnecting from the keyboard and reconnecting it.
Connectivity options:
The Surface Book comes with two USB 3.0 ports and one full sized micro-SD card slot present at its base. There is a Surface Connector port at base as well as in the tablet.
Battery life:
Microsoft has claimed the battery life of the Surface Book to be up to 12 hours. It is more than what was claimed by Apple for its MacBook Air and iPad.
Surface Pen:
Microsoft’s hybrid tablet is also compatible with the new Surface Pen stylus. The Pen comes one year battery life and an eraser at the top. Holding down the Surface Pen's button can activate Cortanaand it can detect 1,024 levels of pressure.
The higher priced models of the Microsoft Surface Book feature an Nvidia GPU. While Microsoft has not revealed which GPU it is using but it did showcase that it is powerful enough to support Adobe software and the new Gear of War Ultimate edition.
Price:
All this costs a pretty penny though. The Intel Core i5 variant without the NVIDIA GPU starts at $1499 while the one with the GPU starts at $1899. The Core i7 with the GPU starts at $2099.
