Gionee has launched its selfie-centric S6s smartphone in India. It is somewhat similar to the Gionee S6, which came out earlier this year. However, the S6s offers updated specifications and a much better front-facing camera. The Gionee S6s is priced at Rs. 17,195 and is now available via Amazon India and Gionee’s offline retail partners. Here's taking a look at the smartphone in closer detail.
Before we begin, here is a quick look at the specifications of the Gionee S6s:
Display: 13.97cm (5.5 inch), 1080p
SoC: MediaTek MT6753
RAM: 3GB
Storage: 32GB
Camera: 13MP, 8MP
Battery: 3150mAh
OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
The Gionee S6s is 8.15mm thick and weighs 166 grams.
The main feature on the new Gionee S6s is the front-facing camera. Gionee claims that the phone can take superior selfies thanks to the 8MP front-facing camera, which has a 5P lens system. It is further aided by a front-facing flash, which is aimed at improving selfies taken in low-light conditions. The camera app incorporates Gionee’s new Beautify 2.0 feature which smoothens, whitens and slims your selfies according to your liking.
The 13.97cm (5.5 inch) 1080p display on the phone looks quite good, and offers good viewing angles. Gionee has used an in-cell display on the S6s, which improves colour saturation over the Gionee S6.
In hand, the metal build of this device looks and feels quite premium. In this image, you can also notice that the display, despite being good, is a little reflective.
The Gionee S6s is running on Gionee's Amigo 3.2 UI, which is layered on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Amigo offers pretty cool apps & features for privacy, personalisation & pictures. The S6s also comes with the Image Plus feature that includes apps like Time Lapse videos, GIFs, Slow Motion video, HDR & Ultra Pixel among others.
Gionee has given the S6s a fingerprint scanner. The company claims that the phone unlocks in 0.2 seconds (Lab Data).
Above the fingerprint scanner lies the 13MP rear camera, which is aided by a single LED flash. Gionee is using a f/2.0 lens along with Sony's IMX258 sensor for the same.
