Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 reportedly under development: Here’s what we know
Despite the many foldable smartphones available in the market now, Samsung still is in the lead with many trying to slowly catch up. The South Korean brand’s competitors are coming close and following up in places where Samsung failed to reach.
Samsung was the first to roll out the first ‘foldable display’ smartphone. So, it had a first-mover advantage. But the Samsung foldables do have their problem areas. The biggest one is the thickness. The most recent Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 13.4mm thick body when shut. This not only makes the smartphone bulky but also difficult to work with.

If we consider the most recent foldable smartphone in the market, the OnePlus Open, it packs an 11.7mm body thickness. That’s way lower than Samsung. Even other companies; like the Max X5 have a thickness of 11.1mm, whereas that of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is even lower at 10.9mm. So, Samsung has a lot to catch up on.
Another interesting observation here is that even though these smartphones are much slimmer compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, they come with bigger batteries. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a battery of just 4,400 mAh. The competition, however, stands at Huawei and Xiaomi with a 4,800 mAh battery and OnePlus with a 4,805mAh battery.

We now hear that Samsung is learning from the competition and working on these things. According to a report by The Elec, Samsung could reverse engineer Huawei’s foldable smartphone to understand how it has a slimmer bezel and looks like a bigger battery at the same time.
Taking these efforts into consideration, reports suggest that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 could overcome the shortcomings of its predecessors and have a trimmer body, a thinner hinge, and a possible change to the screen aspect ratio.
