A moment of rejoice for people who liked Realme’s GT series of flagship and mid-range smartphones (I am one of them) as the Realme GT series is officially back in India. This year, Realme is debuting its top-of-the-line GT series with a mid-range smartphone, the Realme GT 6T.

The Realme GT 6T has been launched in India at a price of about Rs 30,000 or just below (with the launch discounts). For that price, the specs on the Realme GT 6T are very good. We are getting a brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset, a 5,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging, an LTPO AMOLED display, up to 512GB of internal storage, along with other things. So on paper, the Realme GT 6T looks like a solid deal. But how good is the smartphone in real life? Let’s find out.

Realme GT 6T review: Design

Design of the Realme GT 6T is nothing special. Of course, adding the curved front and back does offer a premium feel to the smartphone, but I really don’t like how the back panel looks. The curved back is nice and offers a good grip on the smartphone, but the silver strip, which Realme is calling a “Nano Mirror Design” is not something that will appeal to a user like myself. Now since I’m not the only kind of buyer in the market, this would appeal to a lot of users.

The chrome strip that runs across the camera cutouts on the back panels will scratch very easily and is very prone to getting finger smudges. Even with the silicon cover that Realme is shipping inside the box, the silver strip remains exposed. Further, with the camera and flash cutouts placed so close to each other, the small gaps can gather dust and it is very difficult to clean those small gaps.

Apart from that, the design is simple. The curved front panel has a hole punch cutout for the selfie shooter. We get a flattened plastic frame and a plastic back on the Realme GT 6T, which keeps the weight in check (191 grams).

Now, there are some very good things about the design as well. In terms of durability, we are getting Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratches and the Realme GT 6T also comes with IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, which is always good. For a mid-range smartphone, this level of protection is much appreciated.

So in terms of design, my review is mixed. While I may not like the look of the smartphone, there are enough positives despite not liking the design myself.

Realme GT 6T review: Display

Coming to the display, here also things are rather impressive. Firstly, this is probably one of the first mid-range smartphones to come with an LTPO AMOLED display so that is good. Furthermore, Realme is claiming a peak brightness of up to 6,000 nits. That is one of the highest numbers that I have personally seen on any smartphone at least on the spec sheet. In reality, however, things aren’t as impressive. Now, the 6,000 nits isn’t the whole display’s luminance, but the brightest 1 percent of the Realme GT 6T’s display.

But it’s nothing too bad. I tested the brightness using a Lux Meter on the Realme GT 6T’s display and the smartphone showcased 1,444 nits of peak luminance under bright sunlight. This basically means that the sunlight visibility of the Realme GT 6T is very good and you will have no issues using this smartphone in any kind of environment.

The Realme GT 6T also offers an LTPO panel, which means that the display will adjust the refresh rate according to the content on screen. It supports up to 120Hz refresh rate so yes, every swipe and gesture on this display is absolutely smooth and slick. This not only makes scrolling through windows and apps smoother, it also enables high FPS gaming on the Realme GT 6T.

The colours on the other hand are vibrant. I wasn’t able to test the accuracy of the colours, but this display is said to have 100% DCI-P3 coverage, meaning that the colours are represented at a certain level of accuracy. We further get colour profiles to adjust colours on the display according to the user’s taste and preference. There are 5 different colour profiles on the Realme GT 6T including “vivid,” “natural,” “Pro,” “cinematic,” and “brilliant.” Along with these, you can also choose from a warmer or a colder colour setting.

So the display on the Realme GT 6T is very good. I honestly liked the way it performs. The only thing that could be a bit of a miss is the lack of major HDR certifications, but apart from that it does a lot of things better than some of the biggest competitors in this range.

Realme GT 6T review: Performance

So the Realme GT 6T is the first smartphone to come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. The performance is pretty good. In fact, the Realme GT 6T’s Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset offers similar level of performance as compared to last year’s flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In some benchmarks, it even surpasses the 8 Gen 2 in terms of performance.

In our tests, the Realme GT 6T beats some of the latest competitors like the OnePlus Nord CE4 5G, or the Moto Edge 50 Pro. In fact, in most CPU benchmarks, the Realme GT 6T even beats the Poco F6 which has been launched today with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. Impressive.

I was also impressed by the smartphone’s capabilities. Be it general use, multi-tasking, or even gaming, the Realme GT 6T is nothing short of a powerhouse. The smartphone is blazing fast in terms of opening and closing apps. Games do not lag or stutter. No frame drops, no lags, no app crashes. Even the software seems to be very stable on this smartphone.

Even throttling is not an issue with the Realme GT 6T. I ran a CPU throttling test on the Realme GT 6T and the smartphone throttled to 80 percent of its peak performance which is pretty good.

Even the Realme GT 6T’s software seems to have improved. The smartphone has little to no bloatware and the UI seems much more stable and easier to use. I also noticed browser notifications and random ads being reduced since the last time I reviewed a Realme smartphone.

Battery on the Realme GT 6T is a 5,500mAh unit which is bigger than the standard 5,000mAh units that we usually see on smartphones these days. With the bigger battery, we also get 120W super fast charging that took about 34 minutes to charge the device.

The battery backup is good. While playing Call of Duty for 15 minutes straight on the highest-possible settings, the smartphone lost xx percent battery. While playing a YouTube video on 2160p resolution for 30 minutes, it lost 4 percent of the battery, and in our video loop test, the Realme GT 6T lasted for xx minutes (xx hours and xx minutes) which means that the battery backup here is very good apart from the blazing fast 120W fast charging.

Realme GT 6T review: Camera

With the camera, it is very evident that Realme didn’t focus much here. The smartphone comes with a 50-megapixel primary shooter and an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. The camera performance is just decent. For example, you can click good pictures from this smartphone, but the post processing algorithms that Realme has put in place often make the photos look a little unreal.

While clicking faces, I found out that the camera does a lot of smoothening of the skin. Even after turning off the beauty filter all the way to zero, the camera still smoothens skins, which isn’t very real and gives a bit of an artificial look on faces.

Then again, there is the difference between the quality of photos from the primary camera and the wide angle shooter. The results aren’t very consistent between the two and there is loss in detail when clicking photos from it individually.

But then again, it is not like it’s a bad camera. It can still click decent images and there are enough features for users to have fun with this camera. The only thing is that the camera hasn’t been given much of a thought.

Realme GT 6T review: Verdict

So that was my review of the Realme GT 6T. I believe that even at a price of ₹30,999 it offers good value for money. There are more positives here than negatives. In terms of the build quality and design, the smartphone may not look the best, but we are getting IP65 and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 which is great. The cameras may not be the best, but we are getting exceptional battery life and crazy fast charging.

The display is good, there is an LTPO panel, we are getting a 100% DCI-P3 coverage and a super bright panel (which doesn’t touch 6000 nits in normal usage). So yes, despite its shortcomings, I feel that there is a certain level of value for money with the Realme GT 6T and for someone looking for an all-rounder device in the Rs 30,000 range, the Realme GT 6T makes for a good option.’
