Vivo V50e 5G Review: Sharp camera, eye-catching design, but is that enough?

- Eye-Catching Design
- Vibrant AMOLED Display
- Impressive Camera Setup
- Long Battery Life with Fast Charging
- Smooth Daily Performance
- No Processor Upgrade
- Not Ideal for Heavy Gaming
- Plastic Back Attracts Smudges
- Color Tuning May Not Suit Everyone
The Vivo V50e 5G stands out with its stylish design, vibrant display, impressive camera, and long battery life. While it handles daily tasks well, the dated chipset holds it back in gaming. A solid choice for casual users, but not ideal for power users or gamers.
The mid-range smartphone market in India is more competitive than ever, with brands constantly trying to outdo each other by offering premium features at accessible prices. From vibrant displays to powerful cameras and fast charging, users now expect a lot without having to spend a fortune.
Well, Vivo has just launched a new contender in this space—the Vivo V50e 5G– which is priced at Rs 28,999. With its eye-catching design, the phone looks well-equipped to take on the competition.
But does it live up to expectations in real-world use? I spent a good amount of time with the device to find out how it performs across key areas like design, display, performance, camera, and battery. Here’s my full review of the Vivo V50e 5G.
Vivo V50e 5G: Design
There are two colours of Vivo V50e 5G smartphone– Sapphire Blue and Pearl White. I got the Sapphire Blue for the review. The first thing that stood out to me was the phone’s shimmer finish. The back has a flowing wave-like pattern that adds to the visual appeal. The back panel does attract fingerprints, but they aren’t easily noticeable.
Now, talking about the design language, I think Vivo has really nailed the look without going overboard—and here’s why:
- To start with, the dual-ring camera setup on the back stands out with its bold and modern design. Two camera sensors are vertically aligned within a circular module, and just beneath it sits the company’s iconic Aura Light.
- Second, the back panel is plastic, but it doesn’t feel cheap at all. The glossy acrylic-like finish gives it a near-glass look, and the curves along the edges make it comfortable to hold.
Overall, the Vivo V50e is stylish, comfortable in the hand, and has an eye-catching design.
Vivo V50e 5G: Display
The Vivo V50e features a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It delivers that signature AMOLED punch with rich, vibrant colours that really stand out.
In our display tests using Calman and the Spectracal C6 Colorimeter, the V50e’s screen reached an impressive peak brightness of 2320 nits in auto mode, making it capable of handling bright outdoor conditions with ease and ensuring sunlight legibility.
In terms of colour accuracy, the Vivo V50e performs just as well. It recorded an average Delta E of 1.5 in the Professional colour profile, which means the colours look accurate and vibrant. The V50e is ideal for watching YouTube videos, movies and shows on OTT platforms. The display also covers 93.3% of the sRGB colour gamut and maintains a good balance of blue, red, and green tones.
Vivo V50e 5G: Performance
Let’s talk about performance—and I’ll be honest, this is one area where I have mixed feelings. One of the things that disappointed me a bit is the processor. The Vivo V50e equips the same MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset that we saw in its predecessor Vivo V40e. I was hoping Vivo would upgrade the chip this time, especially considering the competition in this price range.
That said, in real-world usage, the phone actually performs quite well. I didn’t feel any lag while doing day-to-day stuff like texting, scrolling social media, watching videos, or switching between apps.
When it comes to gaming, casual titles like Temple Run ran smoothly without any issues. But if you’re someone who likes to play graphic-heavy games like BGMI, you might want to keep your expectations in check. Even at balanced settings, I faced constant frame drops.
Well, this was all my personal experience. Now, let’s talk numbers. The Vivo V50e scored 6,83,637 on AnTuTu, 1,029 in Geekbench single-core, and 2,988 in multi-core. These scores are slightly below what you typically get with other smartphones in the same price bracket, which makes the lack of a chipset upgrade more noticeable.
So in short, the Vivo V50e handles everyday tasks with ease, but power users or serious gamers might want to look elsewhere.
Vivo V50e 5G: Camera
Let’s get to the cameras now. Vivo has always paid extra attention to this area, and the V50e is no exception. The phone comes with a dual-camera setup on the back, featuring a Sony 50-megapixel IMX882 sensor with OIS as the main shooter, paired with an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens. For selfies, it packs a 50-megapixel front camera.
Now, let’s talk about how it performs in real life. Personally, I really liked the portraits it captured. The edge detection is neat, and the background blur looks pretty natural. That said, there were times when the camera over-optimised the shots, especially by deepening the blacks too much. Sometimes, this made the photo look more dramatic—in a good way. But other times, it felt a bit off for my taste.
For details, I’d easily give this phone a solid 10 out of 10. Whether you’re clicking people or random objects in good lighting, it captures details really well.
Some shots may look a bit too vibrant—the kind of punchy colours that pop on Instagram but may not always be true to life. Still, the overall image quality is excellent and more than enough for most users.
Vivo V50e 5G: Battery
The Vivo V50e is packed with a 5600mAh battery with 90W wired charging support. In the PC Mark battery test, the V50e lasted an impressive 16 hours and 58 minutes. That’s longer than several other phones in the same price range, which definitely speaks about Vivo V50e’s battery optimisation.
To get more specific, the battery dropped just 2% during 30 minutes of HDR video streaming, which is honestly quite efficient. And you know how apps like Google Maps can drain the battery quickly—well, on the Vivo V50e, using Maps for an hour took only 4% of the charge. That’s pretty great.
As for charging speed, it took around 50 minutes to go from 0 to 100%, which is very reasonable.
Verdict
The Vivo V50e is a stylish all-rounder that ticks most of the right boxes—especially if you’re someone who values aesthetics, battery life, and camera performance. Performance-wise, it’s good enough for everyday use, though the lack of a chipset upgrade may disappoint gamers or power users. That said, casual users won’t face any hiccups during regular multitasking or streaming.
Where the phone truly shines is in its camera and battery departments. The 50MP main camera is capable of producing crisp, detailed images, and the large 5600mAh battery easily gets you through a full day.
Overall, the Vivo V50e is a good mid-range pick—just don’t expect flagship-level gaming performance.
