VERDICT:

The big question: should you buy the Vivo V50? It starts at Rs 34,999 for the base (8GB+128GB) variant and goes up to Rs 40,999 for the top (12GB+512GB) variant, which is the same as the V40 pricing when it launched last year. The Vivo V50 feels more like a refined version of the V40 rather than a groundbreaking upgrade.

Vivo V50 Review: The Vivo V-series has always been known for its stylish design and strong camera performance. However, with the Vivo V50, Vivo is trying to offer more than just good looks and it aims to deliver a balanced mix of aesthetics and power. After extensive testing, here’s how the V50 fared in our synthetic benchmark tests and real-world use.

Vivo V50 Review: Design & Build Quality

Vivo continues its tradition of sleek designs with the V50. The phone features a premium glass back with curved edges, making it comfortable to hold. It is available in three colours: Red, Titanium Grey, and Starry Blue, with the latter showcasing a 3D holographic star effect when viewed under light.

Despite housing a massive 6000mAh battery, the phone remains slim at just 7.6mm thick and weighs around 199 grams, making it one of the slimmest phones with such a large battery. Additionally, it comes with an official IP68/69 rating for water and dust resistance.

Vivo has also improved the haptic feedback, offering a more tactile and responsive typing experience. The buttons are well-placed, making the overall design feel ergonomic, premium and solid.

Vivo V50 Review: Display

The V50 features a 6.7-inch quad-curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 1.5K resolution. It also features Vivo’s new Diamond Shield Glass, which is 50% more drop-resistant than the previous generation Schott Xensation Alpha glass.

In daily use, content consumption, gaming, and social media scrolling feel incredibly smooth. The display reaches a peak brightness of 2260 nits in auto mode and 1084 nits in manual mode, ensuring great outdoor visibility.

Our display tests showed an average Delta E of 1.1 in Professional colour mode, confirming excellent colour accuracy. However, the Standard and Bright modes introduce shifts in blue and red tones. While the display delivers vibrant colours, it lacks Dolby Vision support, although HDR content still looks good on platforms such as YouTube and streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video and JioHotstar.

Vivo V50 Review: Performance

One area where Vivo could have made a significant improvement is performance. The V50 retains the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, the same chip used in the V40 (review) and V30. While the 7 Gen 3 chipset isn’t bad, it does feel like Vivo missed an opportunity to upgrade.

In real-world usage, the phone handles app launches and multitasking smoothly. However, during AI-heavy tasks such as object removal or Night Mode processing in the camera app, we noticed occasional slowdowns.

On benchmarks, the V50 performs similarly to the V40, keeping pace with other Snapdragon 7 Gen 3-powered devices like the Moto Edge 50 Pro (review). In our CPU throttling test, the V50 outperformed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in the Poco F6 (review).

We recorded an average of 59fps in BGMI at Smooth and Extreme settings, and 46fps in Genshin Impact on Medium settings. While minor thermal throttling was observed, it wasn’t enough to impact casual gaming significantly.

Vivo V50 Review: Software

The V50 runs on Funtouch OS 15, based on Android 15. The UI is smooth and feature-packed but still comes with some pre-installed apps. Vivo promises three years of major Android updates and four years of security patches, which is a decent commitment.

Vivo V50 Review: Camera

Vivo has built a strong reputation for camera performance, and the V50 continues that trend. While the core specs remain largely the same, Zeiss has refined image processing software to enhance image quality.

A standout feature is the new film camera mode, which includes a wedding photography mode and classic Zeiss lens effects like Distagon, B-Speed, and Biotar.

The camera system includes a comprehensive portrait system, offering focal lengths of 23mm, 35mm, and 50mm for greater flexibility. The 50-megapixel primary sensor captures sharp and well-exposed images in daylight. In low light, night mode performs well, though oversharpening is sometimes noticeable.

The 50-megapixel front camera provides detailed selfies with a 92-degree field of view, ensuring that group selfies capture everyone. The portrait mode also delivers impressive edge detection.

Vivo V50 Review: Battery & Charging

With its 6000mAh battery, the V50 lasted approximately 11 hours in our screen-on-time test. In real-world usage, it easily gets through a day of heavy use. The 90W fast charging capability takes the phone from 0 to 100% in about 55 minutes, which is quite efficient for a battery this large.

Verdict: Should You Buy the Vivo V50?

The big question: should you buy the Vivo V50? It starts at Rs 34,999 for the base (8GB+128GB) variant and goes up to Rs 40,999 for the top (12GB+512GB) variant, which is the same as the V40 pricing when it launched last year.

The Vivo V50 feels more like a refined version of the V40 rather than a groundbreaking upgrade. However, it still excels in key areas such as premium design, solid cameras, reliable performance, and improved durability. If you’re looking for a stylish phone with good cameras and battery life, the Vivo V50 is a great option. But, if raw performance is your priority, alternatives like the Poco F6 might be a better choice.
