The OnePlus X has been part of rumours for a long while now. The day is finally upon us, when the smartphone maker will unveil its second smartphone in 2015 – the OnePlus X. The first device to launch in 2015 from OnePlus was the OnePlus2, which couldn’t live up to the hype and buzz, that was created thanks to its predecessor, OnePlus One.
The event is about to kick off in a few minutes, and speculations are abuzz as to what the Chinese smartphone maker will announce. There are a lot of speculations circulating the Internet about how the smartphone will be sold. Until now, OnePlus has sold its smartphones to those who have registered for an invite. So, if you didn’t have an invite, you wouldn’t be able to purchase the smartphone. Will that change? Will we finally see OnePlus go the tried and tested method of flash sale, or tie up exclusively with online retailer(s)? OnePlus devices have so far been exclusive with Amazon, with availability of the OnePlus shifting to other online retailers in the due course of time.
Rumours and speculations have been all over the place when it comes to the specifications of the device. Some speculations suggest that the device will be IP67 certified for dust and water resistance, whereas other reports suggest that it won’t. Some rumours have suggested that the device will run on the MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, while others have said that it will run on one of Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon chipsets.
Leaked specifications and rumours have often been seen to be accurate, and we have seen this with the Lumia 950 and 950XL, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, and even with Google’s latest flagship, the Nexus 5X and 6P. Might OnePlus be toying with us, with contradicting leaks?
OnePlus has also teased the presence of a mystery device, which will be unveiled at the event. We don’t think it will be a smartphone, but what could it be, anyway? A drone, or maybe something that involves virtual reality? OnePlus did launch the OnePlus 2 via VR cardboards in India.
Another lingering question here, is the price. Speculations suggest that the OnePlus X will be available in two storage variants, and the price will be under Rs. 20,000. If OnePlus manages to break the 20k price tag with a smartphone sporting great specifications, it may pose a massive threat to the likes of the Honor 7, Moto X Play, Asus Zenfone 2, and more.
