Creative MUVO mini Review : So feature rich, you can’t go wrong

Updated on 01-Aug-2023
VERDICT:

The speaker does have a bit of competition from the UE Mobile Boombox and the SimpleAudio Go but both those speakers don’t have features like NFC or the IP66 water and dust resistance certification. While the MUVO mini is officially priced at an MRP of Rs. 5,999, it’s retailing over at Flipkart for Rs. 4,037 at that price it’s certainly a recommended purchase. The performance level, volume output (quite loud), and the host of features make it a worthy purchase otherwise as well.

Features, design and build

The speaker looks a lot like the Edifier Extreme Connect speaker but the design sensibilities very much follow the geometric pattern style we saw on Creative’s own Airwave HD, especially with the front grille. The MUVO mini is available in black, white, blue and red. Overall the speaker is quite cute. A bit longer than other small form factor portable speakers like the UE Mobile Boombox but it’s slimmer.

The back has the aux in and micro usb ports that are covered by a rubberised flap. Speaking of which, the MUVO mini comes with an IP66 Ingress protection rating which means it’s water and dust resistant – a feature that very few of its competitors are throwing in at the moment. The rubberised matte finish looks nice and gives a great grip. The feet ensure that the speaker doesn’t “walk off” the table while churning out those bass notes.

Performance

The performance of the MUVO mini is at par with the likes of Logitech’s UE Mobile Boombox and the SimpleAudio Go that we tested last month. Running our full gamut of test tracks, we quickly realised that the speakers are tuned for good highs. The dual 1.3-inch full range drivers do their job and the front firing passive radiator manages to amplify the bass. The bass performance or the overall audio quality is a shade lower than the SimpleAudio Go. Then again that’s a more expensive speaker and doesn’t even have NFC or the MUVO mini’s all-weather chops. Ultimately for portable speakers it ultimately boils down to whether the speaker is loud and whether it manages to belt out music without distorting. Yes it’s loud. The distortion is not discernable.
