The Asus ZenWatch looks good, but it’s not the best looking smartwatch
The ZenWatch has been designed to look like a classic watch but comes with modern smartwatch features.
Asus has revealed its ZenWatch Android smartwatch at IFA 2014 in Berlin. The smartwatch, which Asus had promised would be the ‘best looking Android Wear device’ yet, has been designed to look like a classic timepiece rather than the more ‘modern’ stylings of the Moto 360.
The ZenWatch has a 1.6-in AMOLED display and 4GB of internal storage, and is powered by 512MB of RAM and a Qualcomm 400 processor. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and sports a curved ‘2.5D’ glass display. The ZenWatch emulates classic watches by employing a stitched leather strap and a metal clasp along with exposed metal screw heads on its back plate. The ZenWatch also employs Asus’ ZenUI which brings it closer to the ZenFones and will be appreciated by ZenFone owners. The ZenWatch also comes with a host of fitness and tracking features including the ability to measure steps taken, calories burned etc.
Even though Asus has clearly made an effort with the ZenWatch’s design, it still tends to look a little traditional and not something that can stand out among a sea of smartwatches or just regular watches. The Asus ZenWatch carries a price tag of EUR 199 (Rs. 15,800 approx.) but there is no word yet on its launch date or availability.
