Samsung's new patent filing in May shows a round-faced smartwatch, which would use gesture controls. Now some new designs with round faces have appeared on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) website.
Samsung has already launched a number of smartwatches but all of the tech giants wearables have had a square screen. Now new designs have surfaced on the USPTA website that reveal a round face like the Moto 360 and has integrated cameras. Each design appears to have a different wristband and other small differences. Apart from this the site does not reveal any specifics of the device. No information is given whether the device will run on Google’s Android Wear or Samsung’s Tizen operating system.
According to reports Samsung was recently awarded a patent for a device called the Gear S. This could be Samsung's log awaited Gear Solo which will come with a built-in SIM. Samsung describes a smartphone “in the shape of a watch” or a mobile device “in the shape of [a] watchband.” The Gear S may debut at the IFA event in Berlin along with Galaxy Note 4, Gear Glass and its Gear VR headset.
According to rumors LG is also working on a round version of the G Watch which is expected to debut next year. Apple’s much awaited iWatch which is expected to be launched in October, may also have a round screen. Previous reports had claimed that the iWatch would launch alongside the iPhone 6 at a media event in September. However there is no official word from Apple, so its worth taking all these reports with a pinch of salt.
